EMS and SEMI Hockey—A Shared Goal The High Performance Hockey Skills Academy at EMS is a Surrey School District supported and authorized program. Under the leadership of Earl Marriott Secondary Principal, Mr. Ken Hignell, the EMS staff has successfully integrated this program to meet the academic and athletic needs of both junior and senior students. The program’s goal is to provide the varied learning
experiences and skill development opportunities necessary to offer each student an extra edge in athletic and academic achievement. Students will receive course credits in Physical & Health Education and various sport-related Independent Study endeavors.

Goalie instructor Angelo is Magic Goalie Development’s head goaltending consultant and recently named Goaltending Coach for the Portland Winterhawks. Results speak for themselves, as many of his goaltending students have achieved elite status in both Canada and the US. Angelo’s 34+ years of high-level training and playing provide him with the knowledge and understanding that is so crucial in the skill and character development of up-andcoming goaltenders.

Fitness instructors Joe is a professional fitness coach at the Semiahmoo Athletic Club in White Rock. In addition to his expertise in training athletes, he brings an impressive hockey background to the Academy. Joe played Jr. A in BC and then NCAA Div. 1 hockey at Cornell University. After graduation, he continued his career playing two seasons of pro hockey in Texas. Joe’s passions for fitness and hockey give him the perfect balance to both motivate and inspire our student athletes. Joe Scali Fitness Coach

Program Cost •
$2000 for the Semester: Instructor wages, ice rental, transportation, program equipment/clothing and field trips.

Application Process for EMS Students Student and parent/guardian complete the EMS Student Application Forms – Return completed application forms to the Records Clerk at the EMS office, along with a down-payment cheque for $500 and 2 post dated cheques ($750 ea.) – All applications will be date stamped upon receipt. You may request a receipt for your down payment at the front office.

Application Process for Out of Catchment Students Students wishing to transfer to EMS for the second semester this year must: 1)
Email a list of the classes your son or daughter is currently enrolled in at his/her catchment high school to Tanner Murray, Teacher Coordinator of Hockey Academies:
