Withdraw from The Scheme

Governance

The President has organised a dinner with the Lord Mayor to build a good relationship between HUU and the city council. He’s had a lot of input in the Senate Away day breakout session regarding the curriculum reform. He’s been dealing with a lot of disciplinary and complaints. President has been working with the Chair E&E, Fatima, Chair E&E elect, University Environmental Manager and HUSSO on the NUS Green Fund, which is an initiative the NUS have released where there is 5million pounds up for grabs to SU's to run green projects on campus. He’s also been continuing handover with Richard and the Sabb Restructure Review. President is lobbying key members of the university about Hidden Course Costs data so we can communicate that back to students andhe’s been working with Pippa, ISA and the University Int Office regarding duplication of work. President has been approached with Beach Break Live to promote their festival as a commercial operation but referred them to BAM due to our commercial contract with the. Had an open dialogue with EYMS regarding possible coach hire deals in the future and has been working with the University to promote the 'Impending Visit of Salim Lamrani' who is a world renowned academic journalist from Cuba. Took part at the AU Trophy Pres and proudly presented 'The Magid Mah Award' for Outstanding Contribution, H.U.M.M.A. Helping a mature international student get her flights sorted and get some money reimbursed by speaking to Egypt Air and the Egyptian Embassy. Regarding the motion passed at the last Gov Zone regarding the election review. The President took this to UEC yesterday and UEC suggested that holding a meeting will not be useful and that it’s now too late but that Gov Zone should come up with questions and that we should send it to all candidates that ran in the elections to get their feedback and put it as part of the elections preparation for next year. 12

Education

Last academic council of the year on Thursday. Good turn out from course reps. Reviewed academic council meetings structure, good feedback, reps felt that there was a sense of community. Draft report for curriculum reform. Good student input. 3 trimesters to recognise teaching time for nursing students to get services opened. Library: Vice President Education went to library redevelopment steering group. General plan is 1 week behind schedule. Very few official complaints. Tor has been liaising with new Grimsby institute president. Spent 2 days at a 'recognising teaching excellence' residential. SLTAs Tomorrow is the big night. Short listings were long but all sorted. All plans in place, hope for a stress free event. 13

Welfare

Links - organising going on for the EOYB which is a big task. A meeting being organised between HUU officers, finances, links and St. John's to make sure that all financial procedures are followed in line with the charity act at all time! BAME have held a successful AGM and filled their committee. Women's committee held an open mic showcase. LGBT+ four delegated attended NUS LGBT conference and had a meeting with VP welfare beforehand to run through motions and policy to be as prepared as possible! Disabled student committee are running a campaign around having a stress free exam period so keep your eyes peeled for free fruit. Also nominated for campaign of the year HUU awards. VP welfare has been busy over the last week with a lot of university meeting including student progress committee and a senate and university council away day last week. She is working with VP education on making a case for a mitigating circumstances system that works for students. VP Welfare has also been carrying out a lot of work on housing, especially the scheme as previously discussed. 14

Sport

An agreement has been reached with regards to a professional coach for the football club. VP attended a good debrief about recent sports research. VP attended a launch event for the new squash court, which showcased our lovely new venue facilities. The HUU Award judging process took ages, but was a success, and it was great to see how people's efforts have been recognised Trophy Pres was a great success, with very good feedback from those that attended VP attended a very good meeting with Kukri about kit provision.

VP attended a great performance by the Performing Arts Society VP met with the football exec to discuss how they can progress the club, and run it more effectively for the year ahead. VP attended a meeting about the Sports Strategy Update and how it can be taken forward, following the feedback received. VP met with EYMS to discuss providing coaches and buses for next year. VP attended a really good meeting with Archery to see how they can develop the club for the years ahead The AU Allstars match was great on Friday (26th April) and raised £90 Hockey Intramural event over the weekend went incredibly well, and was enjoyed by all. On Wednesday the 1st May, there is a Give It A Go session for Wheelchair Rugby. The event will run from 1-3pm, and should be great fun, so come along!

Community

Current society membership is 2,087 (10.4% of the Hull Campus student population). Including Scarborough, there are 2,181 individual society members (9.9% of the student population as a whole). An increase has happened over the last few weeks due to AGMs. Non individual memberships is at 3,027. 100 members of Hullfire, last Hullfire has gone to print. 66 Members of JAM Radio. 33 members of HUUTV. Handover for George Mullen is going well. Media Awards has secured its guest speaker, the assistant editor of Hull Daily Mail. Hannah Pomfret to send out email to the members of JAM informing them they may have a refund. The ISA has increased its figures from the previous year. 2011/2012 saw 700 members of the ISA, 2012/2013 sees 850 members. 600+ attendees at the last ISA party. ISA will be running a free trip to Scarborough, so far there have been 150 people interested. The connection that the ISA has with the language societies has been very good for engagement. The elections for the new ISA committee will take place Friday 3rd May at 5pm in Meeting Room 1. HUSSO currently has 10 projects going out regularly and is working well. They are looking into running an awards ceremony commencing 17th May, and an AGM has occurred. Strategy for each of the zones is underway. VP Community asked to be a part of the review. There have been 126 projects in total this year. RAG: the KPI of £26,000 being raised has been achieved. VP Community would like it noted that DR of the SSE has done a fantastic job as Chair of RAG, his dedication is truly appreciated. The zone has completed the scrutiny of the VP Community’s operations plan. Events: HUU awards and Media awards tickets are available to buy online. Matthew Grove will be coming into the union 6pm Thursday 2nd May to talk to students about crime related problems students face. There's a survey online to compliment this, so please fill it out and share. 16 Scarborough

Clubs and Societies Strategy and Campaign. o Addressing issues and making sure the activities run in Scarborough are value for money, quality and meet the needs of the students we have in Scarborough o We will be running a day next week to promote our current clubs and societies and spark interest with new Clubs and Societies Membership Figures o Clubs – 193 o Societies – 98 Course Rep forums this year have run extremely well considering the change in structure to try and keep our course reps engaged throughout the year. o In the Rate your Union Survey 84% felt that Course Reps in Scarborough are effective. o Jamie and Chris are still working through some of the action points from the last course rep forum. Scarborough Awards – Nominations are in, winners are picked and Friday night should set to be a decent night in Scarborough. – We’re all excited for it anyway! Sports on the Beach is on Wednesday, should be a great day for all taking part. Pippa and Chris are looking for team members who will bring a winning mentality to the team, if you’re interested speak to them after!
