I KNOW THE SCRIPTURES ARE TRUE Primary Program 1. This year our theme in primary has been: I know the scriptures are true. 2. We have learned that the scriptures are the word of God. 3. In 2nd Nephi chapter 32 verse 3, it states, “Feast upon the words of Christ; for behold the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do.” 4. The words of Christ help us in our daily lives. They tell us the things we should do and they help us when we face trials. 5. We receive blessings when we read the scriptures. 6. We can each know for ourselves that the scriptures are true if we listen with our hearts.

“IF I LISTEN WITH MY HEART”

7. We have learned that Heavenly Father has a plan for each one of us. 8. Moses chapter 1 verse 39 says, “For behold, this is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.” 9. The Family: A Proclamation to the World declares that we are “Each beloved spirit sons or daughters of heavenly parents, and, as such, we each have a divine nature and destiny.” 10. We lived in heaven before we came to earth. 11. Jesus Christ created this beautiful world for us to live in and we were sent here to live with our families. 12. Families are central to Heavenly Father’s plan. 13. Heavenly Father’s plan gives us freedom to choose right and wrong. 14. I will follow God’s plan by choosing the right each day. I will say my prayers, read my scriptures, and obey my parents. 15. I will follow God’s plan by being kind and helpful 16. TALK: I followed God’s plan by being baptized this year and I will continue to follow his plan by keeping my baptismal covenants.

SONG:

I WILL FOLLOW GOD’S PLAN

17. Heavenly Father loves us and He wants to help us in our lives. 18. He sends prophets to lead and guide us while we’re on the earth. 19. Heavenly Father speaks to us through His prophets. 20. Doctrine & Covenants section 1 verse 38 states, “What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, …whether by mine own voice of by the voice of my servants, it is the same.” 21. We are blessed to be led by a living prophet. 22. Our prophet today is President Thomas S. Monson. 23. We will never be led astray if we always listen to the teachings of the prophets. 24. There is safety in following the prophet. 25. TALK: What I learned from President Monson in the Oct. General Conference.

STAND FOR THE RIGHT

26. Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. 27. The 3rd Article of Faith proclaims, “We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.” 28. Jesus Christ lived a perfect life when He was on the earth. He obeyed all of the commandments and He treated everyone with kindness and love. 29. Jesus is the perfect example and I’m trying to be like Him. 30. Jesus Christ loves us so much that He willingly gave His life so that we may return to live with Him again someday. 31. The Atonement of Christ allows each of us the opportunity to be saved from our sins. 32. When we sin, we become unclean. In the scriptures we are taught that “…no unclean thing can dwell with God...” Christ’s Atonement gives us a chance to repent of our sins. The Atonement cleanses us and makes it possible for us to be forgiven. 33. I know that Jesus Christ was resurrected and I will be too. 34. I love Jesus and I’m thankful for His Atoning sacrifice.

HE DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE AGAIN

35. The Church of Jesus Christ has been restored. 36. The 6th Article of Faith says, “We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.” 37. Nearly 200 years ago when Joseph Smith was only a few years older than I am, he wondered which church he should join. He carefully studied the Bible in his search for the truth. Joseph knew the scriptures were true. After reading and pondering James chapter 1 verse 5, he decided to ask God which church he should join. Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith. 38. Joseph Smith testified, “I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other— This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!” 39. After being taught by Moroni for several years, Joseph Smith received the gold plates. With help from our Father in Heaven, he translated the gold plates into the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. 40. Heavenly Father restored the Priesthood to the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God and he is the prophet of the Restoration. 41. The Priesthood is the power of God. 42. In Doctrine & Covenants section 135 verse 3 we read, “Joseph Smith, the Prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it…He lived great and he died great in the eyes of God and his people; and like most of the Lord’s anointed in ancient times, has sealed his mission and his works with his own blood…”

PRAISE TO THE MAN

43. The 4th Article of Faith states, “We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.” 44. Principles of the gospel are laws or rules that we must follow. 45. Faith is the first principle of the gospel. When we have faith in Jesus Christ we love Him, trust Him, and keep His commandments. 46. The second principle of the Gospel is repentance. In order to repent of our wrong doings we must feel sorry, ask for forgiveness, right the wrong and not repeat the wrong.

47. When we repent with a sincere heart we are forgiven. 48. An ordinance is a sacred, formal act performed by the authority of the priesthood. Baptism is an ordinance of the Gospel. 49. When I was baptized this year I made sacred covenants with Heavenly Father. I promised to take Jesus’ name upon me and always remember Him. 50. Confirmation is another ordinance of the Gospel. When we are confirmed we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost will comfort and guide us in our lives. 51. TALK: Share an experience you’ve had with the Holy Ghost.

FAITH

52. The temple is a house of God. 53. God has commanded his people to build temples. 54. Our families are blessed through sacred temple ordinances. 55. In The Family: A Proclamation to the World we read, “Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.” 56. I am grateful for my eternal family. 57. The pioneers worked hard and sacrificed to build temples. It took them 40 years to build the Salt Lake Temple. 58. I am thankful the Brigham City Temple is being built so close to my home. 59. This year we have learned that we can prepare now to be worthy to go the temple by living the Gospel Standards.

SONG:

I LOVE TO SEE THE TEMPLE

60. 1st Corinthians chapter 3 verses 16 & 17 read, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? …The temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” 61. My body was created by Heavenly Father. It is a sacred gift and I will keep it pure and clean.

62. Temples are beautiful, sacred buildings where the Spirit of God is always present. My body is also a temple. When I dress modestly I can have the Holy Ghost as my constant companion. Dressing modestly shows respect for Heavenly Father and for myself. 63. When we live the Word of Wisdom we are treating our bodies as temples. Following the Word of Wisdom blesses us with a healthy body, a strong mind, and the guidance of the Holy Ghost. 64. The 13th Article of Faith states, “If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.” We should only read, watch, and listen to wholesome things in order to keep our minds clean and pure. 65. I will treat my body as a temple by eating nutritious food and reading good books.

SONG:

THE LORD GAVE ME A TEMPLE

66. The scriptures teach about Missionary work and how it blesses everyone. They teach that the gospel will be preached to all the world. I know I can prepare now to serve a mission by studying my scriptures and keeping the commandments. 67. Doctrine & Covenants section 133 verse 37 states, “The gospel shall be preached unto every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people.” 68. The scriptures teach that prayer is reverent communication between our self and Heavenly Father. They teach us how and when we can pray and that Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers. 69. James chapter 1 verse 5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” 70. The scriptures teach that reverence is love and respect for God. 71. In Matthew chapter 22 verse 37 we read: “Thou shalt love the Lord they God with all they heart, and with all thy soul, and with all they mind.” 72. As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints we know that we have a loving Father in Heaven. We lived with Him before we came to earth and we are not alone during this life. Heavenly Father has given us instructions to help us find our way back to Him. The scriptures contain the word of God. They teach us gospel principles and they testify of our Savior, Jesus Christ. There is power in the scriptures and I know that they are true.
