(read from scriptures) Second Nephi, Chapter 4, verse 15 says, “For my soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them.” For thousands of years, the words of Heavenly Father and the Savior Jesus Christ have been revealed to and recorded by prophets and apostles. They have been preserved for each generation as scripture. They are sacred and precious to us. Listen as we share with you today what we, as the Lakes Ward Primary children, have learned and experienced from the Holy scriptures throughout this last year.

(From scriptures) 2nd Nephi, Chapter 32, verse 3: “Feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do”

Child:

The words of Christ are for feasting, not just for snacking. We can fill our hearts and minds with His words and know the right things to do at all times. If we make a habit of reading the scriptures daily and following their teachings, we will know for ourselves that they are true. We will have happiness and peace. We will feel their power for good in our lives.

Through modern revelation we have learned who we are, where we came from, why we are here, and where we are going after this life is done. We are blessed to know the answers to these questions from the scriptures. 1

We lived with our Heavenly Father as His Spirit children before we were born. He had a wonderful plan for you and me to be with Him forever. Families are a very important part of Heavenly Father’s plan. I will try to follow His plan. Great blessings are waiting for me if I do.

Prophets are holy men who are called by the Lord through the power of the Holy Priesthood to speak for Him on the earth. Many prophets have lived throughout the ages and we are led by a living prophet today. There is safety in following the prophets of the Lord.

All Holy Scripture bears testimony of one great truth – That Jesus is the Christ. He is our Savior and Redeemer. It is through Jesus Christ that Heavenly Father’s great plan for our eternal happiness with Him was made possible. We love our Savior and love learning about Him in the scriptures and singing our testimonies of Him each week.

Jesus Christ was chosen to be our Savior. He is the perfect example for me. Jesus Christ lived and died for me and was resurrected. I know I will be, too.

Narrator 2:

After the Savior died and was resurrected, His chosen apostles were killed and the priesthood authority, the pure gospel and true church were eventually lost from the earth. It was not until the Spring of 1830 that those things were restored to the earth by the Savior through a young boy, Joseph Smith.

Child: Joseph Smith is the prophet of the Restoration. Through him we received another book of scriptures, another testament of Jesus Christ – The Book of Mormon. Child: The church that Jesus Christ had established when He lived on the earth has been restored. We are blessed to be members of it today. Child:

Narrator 1:

In 1842, the Prophet Joseph Smith was asked by a newspaper publisher, Mr. Wentworth, about his church and its history and teachings. Joseph wrote back letters to answer Mr. Wentworth’s questions. At the end of those letters, he summarized the church’s beliefs with 13 simple statements. These later became known as the Articles of Faith and became part of our modern day scriptures – The Pearl of Great Price – in 1880.

Our Stake President has asked us, as children in the Lakes Stake Primary, to memorize these 13 Articles of Faith. We have taken on this challenge in our ward. We challenge all of you to do the same. Through knowing these basic principles and teachings of our church, we can strengthen our own testimonies and bring many other souls to Christ.

Through the first principles and ordinances of His gospel, it is possible for us to live with Jesus and our Father in Heaven again. As we learned through the Articles of Faith – these principles and ordinances are faith, repentance, baptism by immersion, and the Gift of the Holy Ghost.

Faith in Jesus Christ leads us to love Him, trust Him, and keep His commandments.

God has always commanded His people to build temples. Thanks to the restoration of the Holy Priesthood, we can once again make sacred covenants and perform the necessary ordinances that seal us to our families forever and the promise of a celestial life with our Father in Heaven as long as we live worthily.

Our Spirits were given an amazing body to live within while we were on the earth. It is as sacred and pure as a temple. We learn through the scriptures how special it is and how we should take care of it. It is up to us to keep it pure and clean in every way. 4

When you have a wonderful prize or gift or treasure that makes you happy, it’s almost impossible not to tell others about it and share it with them. That’s how the Gospel of Jesus Christ should be. It is our privilege and our responsibility to share it with all of Heavenly Father’s children, so they can be happy, too.

Prayer is reverent communication between God and me. Through the scriptures we are taught that we can pray directly to Him, through Jesus Christ, anywhere, and any time we need to for any reason at all. He loves to hear us and bless us.

I can pray to Heavenly Father. I feel the Spirit when I pray. The scriptures teach me how and when to pray. Heavenly Father hears and answers my prayers.

As we have studied the scriptures this year, we have felt a new reverence for sacred things and a greater respect and love for God and Christ. Our testimonies of the scriptures and our Savior have grown and grown. We have truly been able to hear His voice when we listened to His words, not just with our ears but with our hearts. We know the scriptures are true.
