September 25, 2017 Message from Ms. Burke

Hispanic Heritage

Dear Families -

This Monday 9-25-17 kicks off celebrating Hispanic heritage. Scholars may wear Hispanic/fiesta attire. This can include fiesta dresses, mariachi outfits etc.

As we wrap up the month of September, we have a lot to celebrate this week. First, we begin our week by celebrating Hispanic Heritage. We celebrate the rich tradition and great accomplishments, of many of our Walzem families and of the great Hispanic women and men who have come before us. We hope lots of scholars will participate in our day of celebration, and we look forward to celebrating the many cultural traditions of families and scholars in our school throughout the year. We also celebrate the tremendous academic growth our scholars are showing. We now have 39 scholars who are Word Masters and we have our first Royal Reader, Joshua Shadron in 5th grade! This is an amazing accomplishment in just the end of September. Please encourage your scholar to be reading as much as possible so they too can become Royal Readers with one million words read! I would like to take a moment to thank our teachers across the school for a really strong start to our school year. Scholars have experienced a month of transition from their previous grade level, and that is not easy. Our teachers have put in long hours and lots of planning and heart to ensure that all of our scholars experience the best each day. Thank you to you, our families as well for always being a source of support and for knowing that the work we do is a partnership! #Team and Family Happy end of September!

Progress Reports This Tuesday 9-26-17 progress reports will be passed out during homeroom. Our apologies that progress reports were not passed out last week. There will be NO EXCUSES! Your scholar will have them in their backpacks on Tuesday. Coffee With The Principal We are approaching the 1st of October and we will be having our 2nd coffee with the principal/Lead Team. If you would like to join us please RSVP with Miss Rosie by October 3rd. Another reminder will be sent out next parent weekly as well. 15 people will be the max that we will allow to RSVP so do so as quick as possible. Items that are not Permitted in School Fast food bags are not a healthy choice for breakfast or lunch. Please avoid sending your scholar to school with these items. Scholars may also not bring candy, gum or large bags of chips to school. We are working toward a healthy kids’ initiative this year! All Pokémon cards and toys should stay at home and any incentives earned at school must remain away during instructional time. Any birthday celebrations must be pre-approved with your scholar’s homeroom teacher, and we ask that you provide a healthy treat.

Wolf Binders Please be sure to check your scholar’s wolf binder on a DAILY basis. There may be important notes from teachers, you can see how many wolf bucks your scholar earned that day, and there may be something that you need to return to school. The Wolf Binder is key to daily success for your scholar. Please help us reinforce responsibility, organization and safekeeping! Wolf Pack We wanted to take a moment to thank our parent volunteers/wolf pack members. All of the work that you do on our campus does not go unnoticed. If anyone would like to join our wolf pack, please fill out a parent volunteer form at our front office. Be sure to bring your ID with you. Thank you all!

Grade Level Class DOJO Winners – Leaders of the Pack! Please help us congratulate our mighty 3rd grade scholars for winning our DOJO Challenge last week. This means that Tuesday 3rd grade scholars may wear crazy shoes (as long as they’re safe) and their Leaders of the Pack bracelet. Keep up the great work, 3rd grade! Star Student & Core Value Winners Please help us congratulate our 6 Star Students and our 6 core value winners. This week’s core value was Whatever It Takes. These scholars exemplified this core value each day this week by being on campus every day this week and making sure nothing stood in their way of their progress in and out of the classroom. Please continue to encourage your scholars to give their absolute best every day!

AR Testing Scholars can AR test, in their quest to become Word Masters and Royal Readers, any morning during homeroom. Scholars must first check in with their homeroom teacher. Only scholars are permitted in the AR Zone during this am time. We currently have 4 word masters. Let’s continue to encourage our scholars to have a book in hand and read, read, read! Congratulations to our very first Royal Reader, 5th Grader Joshua Shadron!
