THE OTHER BAPTISM SESSION TWO: The purpose PASTOR CHAD GONZALES I. Tied with the Great Commission A. Luke 24:46-51 NKJV 46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And you are witnesses of these things. 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” 50 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. 51 Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. B. Acts 1:1-10 NKJV 1 The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, 3 to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. 4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” 6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” 9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel. B. Jesus intertwined the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the Great Commission. 1. THE VERY LAST COMMAND OF JESUS: BE BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT!!!! C. The primary purpose of the baptism of the Holy Spirit was to be a witness to the world. 1. John 4:13-14 well of living water. Salvation 2. John 7:38-39 rivers of living water! Baptism of Holy Spirit

II. Power Dunamis. Dynamite power!

III. Jesus baptized with Holy Ghost Fire A. Mark 1:4-11 NKJV 4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. 5 Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to

him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. 6 Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And he preached, saying, “There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. 8 I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” 9 It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And immediately, coming up from[d] the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. 11 Then a voice came from heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” 1. Baptized: immersed with the fire of God 2. Holy Spirit comes upon you to empower you for ministry. 3. Jesus miracle ministry didn’t begin until the Holy Spirit came upon Him.

IV. To be a witness, you need something to show authenticity. Signs: “say-meh- on”: used as a symbol of authenticity of the message and the messenger. A. John 10:25 NKJV I told you and you don’t believe. The works that I do in My Father’s Name, they bear witness of Me. B. John 10:37-38 NKJV 37 If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; 38 but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.” C. WITNESS – John 17:18 As you sent me into the world, I send them in to the world. 1. Mark 16:18 these signs will follow! a. Mark 16:15-20 NKJV 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” 19 So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen b. The signs were tied up with the baptism of the Holy Spirit!

V. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit has always been involved in revival! A. The Church was birthed on Pentecost. It started as a spirit filled church! 1. They didn’t have anyone to tell them it wasn’t for today!
