IMPROVE YOUR SERVE Pastor Corey Mantz Woodland Church Sunday, July 22, 2018

“Jesus called the apostles and said, “You know that the rulers of nations have absolute power over people and their officials have absolute authority over people. 26 But that’s not the way it’s going to be among you. Whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant. 27 Whoever wants to be most important among you will be your slave. 28 It’s the same way with the Son of Man. He didn’t come so that others could serve him. He came to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many people.” (Matthew 20:25-28, GW)

1. When I serve I consider others as more significant.

“Don't do anything from selfish ambition or from a cheap desire to boast, but be humble toward one another, always considering others better than yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3, GNT)

2. When I serve I cultivate a thankful heart.

“ And he gives grace generously. As the scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6, NLT)

“So during the meal Jesus got up, removed his outer garment, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5 He put some water into a large bowl. Then he began washing his disciples' feet and drying them with the towel he was wearing.” (John 13:4-5, CEV)

3. When I serve I allow others to put the ball in play.

“We know what love is because Jesus gave his life for us. That’s why we must give our lives for each other. 17 If we have all we need and see one of our own people in need, we must have pity on that person, or else we cannot say we love God. 18 Children, you show love for others by truly helping them, and not merely by talking about it.” 1 John 3:16-18 (CEV)

Growth Work

1. Be faithful with the small things.

2. Intentionally look for opportunities to serve others.

3. Keep asking, “How can I serve?”
