thePeace PeaceofofChrist Christ InInthe Dear Friends in Christ: Most of us are prey good at praying for our personal needs or the needs of our families. When things get really tough, we break out the rosary or the prayer book or even Catholic Church make a trip to the adora on chapel. We pray for our children, our parents and our spouses. Archdiocese of Galveston — Houston A neighbor gets cancer and we pray for them and their family. A couple we know experiences 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail marital troubles and we remember to say a prayer or even light a candle for them. At those Houston, TX 77079 mes when a friend requests that we keep a special inten on in our prayers, we willingly do Tel.: 281-497-1500 so. But how o&en do we “pray the news”? Most of us are prey quick to point out how Fax: 281-584-2024 nega ve and depressing the news is locally, na onally and globally. There is generally plenty www.stjohnvianney.org on the TV or in the newspaper or on the internet to increase our blood pressure. We will ______________________________ complain to our spouse or join in with the gang at work in the great lament of how terrible things are, but when did you last “pray the news”? PARISH CLERGY Rev. R. Troy Gately The Ebola virus, ISIS, murders, car wrecks, unemployment, an apartment fire, racial Pastor tensions, armed robberies, all of the social problems from the NFL to the local school district to the church. Look to the entertainment sec on and see how many tragic lives there are Rev. Charles J. Talar failed marriages, drug overdoses, alcoholism, promiscuity, bankruptcies, and suicides. There is In Residence no shortage of things to pray for. The President and Congress seem to be figh ng for the lowest approval ra ngs. The huge problems facing our na on show lile signs of being Deacons resolved. It is easy to complain and it is easy to say that something should be done, but you Dale Steffes and I can do something. We can pray. We can use the news as our prayer list. Maybe we Al Vacek don’t pray for every last thing, but maybe we can pick two or three things each day to ask the Fred Kossegi Randy Graham Lord to pour out His grace upon. Maybe we can pray for one soul that we encounter in the Louis Provenzano news, on TV or the web each day. Pray for a crime vic m or pray for the criminal or for the ______________________________ police. Pray for Mayor Parker or our city council members. Pray for President Obama and our legislators and jus ces. We can pray for jus ce and wisdom, courage, pa ence and PASTORAL STAFF understanding for government and business leaders. No prayer is ever wasted. Naturally, we Adult Forma"on can’t make God do anything and we may never know the outcome of our prayer but we can Yvonne Gill pe on with hearts burning in love for God and our brothers and sisters throughout the Youth Forma"on world.

Although it is some mes more difficult to find, there is good news too. There is always good news. As the disciples of Jesus, we should be the experts at detec ng and poin ng out the good news in the world. For the good news too, we can and should thank God in prayer. When was the last me you thanked the Lord for a good day on Wall Street or a posi ve job report? How about for the crime sta s cs when they show a decrease or just for a beau ful day or needed rain? Here too we can “pray the news”. Lest we forget we can also pray the sports pages and the want ads. Not just so that our team wins, but for the players and coaches that they be models of good sportsmanship and that no one is seriously injured. We can pray the want ads that those looking will find not the expedient but the good. We can pray that businesses be successful in doing good for their employees, customers and society. Everything in the paper, on the TV news and on the net really is about people. Some of it is silly, some of it is sad and tragic and some of it is heartwarming and inspiring. What we can do is “pray the news” so that even if no one else is aware of the power of God’s love, we are. In doing just that, we are living faith, changing lives and making a difference. In Pace Chris ,

November 6: Talking The Walk The Camino Frances is the most popular of all the Camino routes to Santiago de Compostela in North West Spain. During the year more than 100,000 people walk this particular Camino which begins on the French side of the Pyrenees. In medieval times pilgrims began walking “the French Way” to reach the tomb of the Apostle, St. James the Great. Like them, parishioner, Mike Haynes left the comforts of home to walk in their footsteps.
Presented by: Michael Haynes, parishioner since 2004. Mike has hiked the Lolo Train, the actual crossing used by Lewis and Clark across Idaho, floated the Grand Canyon, worked in Yellowstone National Park and rode a bicycle from San Diego, California to San Augustin, Florida. In 2012, Mike walked the 500 miles of the Camino de Santiago in Spain.
