thePeace PeaceofofChrist Christ InInthe Dear Friends in Christ: Well, it is almost here. Next Sunday, October 12, we will have our annual parish Saint john Vianney bazaar. Many people work extremely hard and long hours to make the bazaar a fun, Catholic Church entertaining and enjoyable reality. Last year, we had nearly 1500 volunteers! When I was a Archdiocese of Galveston — Houston young priest here at St. John Vianney, I asked Fr. Joe Crosthwait, our pastor, ”What’s the 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail purpose of the bazaar?” He replied by poin3ng out to me that this was the one 3me of the Houston, TX 77079 year where everyone from the en3re parish came together as one! From that moment on, I Tel.: 281-497-1500 immediately grew in my apprecia3on of the bazaar. It is a fun 3me for all and Fr. Joe was Fax: 281-584-2024 right, it is the one 3me of the year that we all come together. Folks from all the masses and www.stjohnvianney.org every group in the parish all come together to have fun, eat, laugh, work and serve! People ______________________________ of all ages and every segment of the parish come together as one. It is a wonderful day. PARISH CLERGY Money is also a part of the bazaar. The bazaar is indeed a fundraiser, but that is not Rev. R. Troy Gately the primary purpose of the bazaar. The primary purpose of the bazaar is building and Pastor strengthening our parish community through a day of fun, food and fellowship! To show our thanksgiving to God for the opportunity to come together as a parish family, 100% of our net Rev. Charles J. Talar proceeds are directed for our charies. The monies raised do not go to pay salaries, the In Residence electric bill, the insurance bill or any other bill here at SJV. This is not in lieu of our other charitable works or giving, but in addion to what we are blessed to do out of love for God Deacons Dale Steffes and our neighbor. Some of what we are able to do is because of our bazaar proceeds is to Al Vacek support our parish mission trips to Eagle Pass. Teams of parishioners travel to the TexasFred Kossegi Mexican border to repair homes of some of the poorest people in the U.S. Our proceeds Randy Graham help support our medical mission trip to El Salvador and to build houses with Habitat for Louis Provenzano Humanity right here in Houston. We support efforts to feed, house, cloth and provide ______________________________ medical care for the poor and needy throughout the Houston area. We also use our funds to PASTORAL STAFF help expectant mothers in need to prepare for their unborn children. We assist our sister parishes, St. Peter Claver and St. Francis of Assisi and we aid Catholic educa3on with grants Adult Forma"on to St. John Paul II Catholic School, St. John XXIII High School, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, St. Yvonne Gill Francis of Assisi School, the Inner City Schools of the archdiocese and the University of St. Youth Forma"on Thomas. We aid Magnificat House, Casa Juan Diego and Our Daily Bread in their efforts to Daniel Marcantel shelter the homeless, feed the hungry and give comfort to the stranger in our midst. Music Ministry Each year, we receive numerous requests for assistance from wonderful and worthy Michael Madrid causes and groups. We cannot do everything but because of the hard work of all those who help at the bazaar and those who support the bazaar financially through their patronage and Pastoral Care/ support of the raffle, we have been able to increase the number of groups we help and the Spiritual Life Louis Provenzano amount of financial support we give. So please make every effort to come to the bazaar, rain or shine. Buy a book (or two or ten) of raffle 3ckets, have something to eat and drink, Parish Life/ make some new friends, try your hand at one of the game booths, watch the kids go crazy Ac"vity Center on too much sugar and share in the joy of being part of such a beau3ful parish community. Richard Fairly See you next Sunday at Mass and then at the bazaar! Social Service In Pace Chris3, Ministries Deborah Montez

7-8:30 pm

All of us are born with distinct personality traits and temperaments. Differences in temperament explain why people react differently to the same stimuli. Some of us live for crowds and parties; others seek solitude and time for quiet reflection. God gives us a temperament that colors our understanding, guides our choices, and serves as the foundation for our moral and spiritual life. In their book, authors Art and Laraine Bennett helps to identify your own temperament and use it to become what God is calling you to be: a loving spouse, an effective parent; a good friend, a collaborative co-worker. $32 fee covers book and study guide
