A few years back the archdiocese ran a slogan “Stewardship – a way of life”. You may have seen it here and there. We have run it in our bulletin at different times. It is very accurate. Stewardship is a way of life for Christians, or at least it should be. For us, it is not merely the charitable giving of money, it is a part of our discipleship, a part of living our baptismal promises. To be a faithful Catholic means that we give of ourselves and our possessions, including our time and our wealth. We give not just to fill a need, but because we believe that we are called to imitate God who is the giver of all good things. We have a need to give!

Because of this, I am appealing to you to give as part of your discipleship to the Lord, of living your faith. There is not one area of our parish where we could not use more people. PARISH CLERGY We need people to volunteer in our Social Service Ministries (food pantry, Joseph’s Coat, Rev. R. Troy Gately Mission Trips), Youth Formation (Children’s Liturgy of the Word, catechists, helpers, Pastor chaperons) Liturgy (Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Ushers, Greeters, Altar Servers, choir, sacristans), Parish Life (Bazaar, Parish Life Committee), Pastoral Care & Rev. Charles J. Talar Spiritual Life, (Funeral Aid, Samaritans, retreats, prayer groups), Adult Formation (Study Rev. Daniel L. Warden Priests in Residence Group leaders, baptismal team, office volunteers) and so much more. There is something for everyone. I ask that every adult participate in at least one thing. We have over 3000 parishioners who generously volunteer to serve in our parish ministries, but we have more Deacons than 15,000 registered parishioners (5038 households). Come and be part of the ministry of Dale Steffes the parish. Be a giver and not just a recipient. I promise that you will receive great satisfaction Al Vacek Fred Kossegi and joy from giving of yourself and your time. Be a part of our outreach of love! ______________________________

Now to the matter of finances. ______________________________ Below is a graph showing the breakdown of the Average Weekly Contribution. This is a good news/bad news situation. PASTORAL STAFF The good news is that our situation is Adult Forma$on slowly improving. We meet all of our Yvonne Gill financial obligations and we are able to Youth Forma$on share our blessings generously with others. A full financial report can be seen Daniel Marcantel on our webpage (See: Financial Reports Music Ministry under Giving and Resources). To the Michael Madrid other side. Our average Sunday offering Pastoral Care/ is only $17 per household/per week. Spiritual Life Sadly, the data shows that 34% of our Louis Provenzano registered parishioners have no recordable financial offering to the parish. Yes, some Parish Life/ people give in cash, but cash contributions Ac$vity Center make up less than 8% of our weekly Richard Fairly contributions. Also sobering is that 45% Social Service of our parishioners only give $1-24 per Ministries week. There are two main reasons for Deborah Montez such a low level of giving. First, not Business Office everyone makes it to Mass every week C.J. Pete Prados (please, always come to Mass!).

1 of 2

25th Sunday in ordinary time

2 of 2 They may give $25 every time they come but if they miss Mass once or twice a month, then the average amount is lower. Second, Catholics are traditionally low givers. Our grandparents gave $2 every Sunday and our parents gave $5 a week. So naturally, we show up in our $30K car and put $20 in the basket and then go have dinner with an $8 appetizer, $25 entrée, $9 glass of wine and $7 dessert (not counting the $6 valet parking plus tips)!

We are greatly blessed here at SJV and as pastor, I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to all who so generously support our parish. I ask that all of us prayerfully consider how wonderfully God has blessed us, and that we do our very best to be as generous as possible with our time, our talents and our treasure. In Pace Christi,
