INDIE BIRTH

Manifesto Maryn Green, Indie Birth midwife/CPM

INDIEBIRTH

Finding the sacred in birth means first finding the sacred in the Feminine.

Birth is one of the initiations in the life cycle but is only part of the whole.  Recognizing our sacred nature must come first, and foremost.  Ancient wisdom has

been with women always, whether pregnant

or not.  This tradition of the Wise Woman is

the most ancient and time honored tradition. foremost.  Ancient wisdom has been with women always, whether pregnant or not.  This tradition of the Wise Woman is the

most ancient and time honored tradition.

True pregnancy care is not limited to (or necessarily includes) numbers, tests and protocol.  Medical care in pregnancy is not warranted (or proven to be effective) for the healthy mama and baby.

There is no clock, number or test that knows more than a woman herself.

INDIEBIRTH

Birth is a physiological process.  Nature has given us a blueprint and current science supports what we have always known.  Birth works. Birth is also a metaphysical process.  Pregnancy and birth are not just physical; but also emotional and spiritual journeys.  Each woman experiences this differently.

Birth is a sacred process.  There is an inherent mystery in pregnancy and birth that will never be removed, but that is not usually acknowledged. INDIEBIRTH

We strive for transparency when discussing birth options.  Transparency about our own abilities, experience, knowledge and a willingness to discuss what effects the lack of transparency with many other options.

INDIEBIRTH

Women WILL retain the “skill” of birthing.  “Lost skills” as far as doctors or midwives go may or may not happen.

Only we can retain what is needed to birth our babies. INDIEBIRTH

Connection to her own body and/or to the soul of the baby is the best tool that a woman has in navigating her pregnancy and birth.

INDIEBIRTH

In absence of a problem, there is no need to keep looking for one. Unless you’d like to create one. “Safety” in birth, in life, is not attainable or realistic.  “Safety” implies that there is no risk.  Life does not come without risk. INDIEBIRTH

The evolution of our species does in fact depend on physiological birth and mothering.  If we do not collectively honor this process, we may lose our ability to birth.  Physiological birth is the preservation of future generations, and our species.

Physiological birth and mothering are the foundation for thriving, not just surviving.

INDIEBIRTH

Choosing a hear, led midwife to protect and hold the bir, hing space is a time honored t6adition.

Women have always been with women in birth. INDIEBIRTH

freedom in birth is not confined to a particular place or person Freedom comes 9om releasing the paradig: of fear and belief that someone else knows more about you than you do. A woman can and should choose from the full spectrum of choices available to her; her choice being made from within herself.  There is nothing off limits when she has determined what is right for her.

INDIEBIRTH

Mama and baby are not separate beings. Mama baby… they are linked emotionally and spiritually as well as physically. INDIEBIRTH

“Routine” has no place in pregnancy or birth and especially no place in a powerful birth.  Each mama baby is unique and “routine” suggests fear. And that reinforces the belief that all of us are exactly the same.

INDIEBIRTH

True midwifery is the balanced art and science of the ancient wisdom of attending women in birth combined with the resources and technology we have available now.  The Indie Birth midwife is skilled, intelligent, knowledgeable, aware of current practices and research as well as fully connected and devoted to her families, keenly aware of her energetic presence and fully in her power as an intuitive; she is humble, yet connected and guided by the Sacred energies.

There is no “skill” or “technique” that can be separated from the Sacred.  Indie Birth midwives know deeply the what and the how but also WHY and WHEN.  This way of being can be messy, and the most refined skill is the ability to also turn inward and listen. INDIEBIRTH

Birth, by definition, is “hands-off.”  A midwife doesn’t make birth “hands-off,” she honors the natural process and feels no need to intervene unnecessarily. “Hands-off” also doesn’t mean that a midwife doesn’t know how to use her hands…or that it is always the best or only policy.  A midwife knows when to do or not do because she is led by the unique experience of THAT mother and baby.

INDIEBIRTH

The deep connection we each have with ancient wisdom sometimes needs to be realized.  When we realize it, there is nothing anyone can say or do to sway us this or that way.  We know we have all the answers we need inside of us.

The choices that each woman makes are ultimately not up for debate. We trust  that women know. We trust that the choice is right for them at the chosen time. We trust that every person is just where they should be.  No shaming, no blaming.

INDIEBIRTH

Creating the new paradigm in birth is the only way to go.  The old will fall away when it is time.  No need to criticize or blame or keep trying to fix something that is not working.  Create what you want to see.

Indie Birth Represents Freedom Freedom from boundaries, freedom from choices, freedom to connect to ourselves and our babies.
