INNER CITY SCHOOLS ON TRACK Minister for Education James Merlino will today meet with community members and education and architectural experts at an inner city schools event in Windsor. The event provides an opportunity for community members to learn about the innovative and creative infrastructure design opportunities informing the development of Victoria’s first inner city vertical schools. Community members will hear about the progress on the delivery of Prahran High School and the opportunities that will be available for students at the new school. Community members will also hear from distinguished education consultant, Dr Julia Atkin, who will present on the delivery of contemporary education and agile learning environments in the 21st Century. Dr Atkin’s ‘Learning to Learn’ model focuses on how to support and enhance student and teacher learning. The importance of linking educational principles to inform the design processes, and understanding how the school will operate will be covered by architectural experts, Richard Leonard of Hayball, and Stephen Turner of Gray Puksand architects. Richard Leonard and Stephen Turner are strong advocates of integrating modern education philosophies into the design of school facilities. Community members, including those on New School Planning Committees for Prahran High School, Richmond Secondary College and South Melbourne Park, will have the opportunity to network and discuss these exciting inner city school developments. The inner city school planning groups will provide strategic advice on the development of the school’s vision and curriculum, and will work with the local community, education experts and key stakeholders. The Andrews Labor Government has committed to plan, fund and build new schools in Melbourne’s inner city in its first term of government - including Prahran High School, Richmond College and South Melbourne Park Primary School. Plans are also underway for a new primary school at Ferrars St, South Melbourne.
