September Luncheon

W

e are very excited to have Scott Rider be our speaker at our September 15 luncheon to share his thoughts on: What I Wish I Knew Then; Retrospective of Being in Business for 30 Years in Hilliard.

Inside this Issue p. 2......... Sponsorship Opportunities for the Hollyfest Arts & Crafts Show p. 2..........................Webinar for our South African Adventure p. 2.................Connections & Coffee p. 3..........................Taste of Hilliard & Business Expo p. 4 ................Spotlight on Business: Dickey’s Barbecue Pit p. 4 ............Ribbon Cutting: T•Mobile p. 5.............Worker’s Comp Premium Discount Programs p. 5..............................Office Depot

Scott Rider was born and raised in Hilliard. He attended Hilliard Elementary, Junior High and High School (back when there was only one Hilliard High School). Scott has seen firsthand all the changes that have occurred in Hilliard for nearly 60 years and also knows firsthand the importance of a community like Hilliard having a vibrant and active chamber of commerce. Scott’s father, Paul, was one of the founders of the Hilliard Chamber. Paul served as President of the Hilliard Chamber as did Scott. In addition to twice being the chamber president, Scott has served on the Hollyfest Arts & Crafts Show committee including serving as the Hollyfest chair. In 1988 Scott founded the Rider Financial Group, a firm dedicated to assisting individuals with their personal estate and financial planning individuals as well as helping employers with their employee benefit needs. The firm known today as Rider+Reinke has consistently been ranked in the top twenty firms in central Ohio by Business First in both the assets under management category and employee benefits. Scott will share his experience as a chamber member, past president and board member as well as a brief overview of Scott’s next phase in life as he recently retired and has moved to Beaufort, SC.

T

he eighth annual Taste of Hilliard & Business Expo was held at the Makoy Center on August 2nd. Around 1000 people attended the 3-hour event and the feedback about the event from those who had booths and those who attended has been electric. One lucky person was the winner of $100 in cash! The public had the opportunity to vote for their favorite food and the results were: Best Appetizer: Frank’s Fish & Seafood for their gumbo Best Entrée: Texas Roadhouse for their filet

Best Dessert: Crumbz Cakery for their cookies, cupcakes, and brownies Best Ice Cream: Handel’s Ice Cream for their ice cream sundae bar

The voting was very close in all four categories which shows that we have excellent food choices right here in Hilliard!    Thank you to the committee, especially Co-Chairs, Jill Gerschutz of Credit Union of Ohio and Melissa McKenzie of OhioHealth who planned the event and to our awesome volunteers! The entire list of those businesses and our sponsors who participated are listed at the end of this newsletter. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this event be such a success! Spotlight on Business...

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit – Hilliard Dickey’s Barbecue Pit at 3915 Britton Parkway (Britton and Cemetery) opened November 17, 2016 by Owner/Operator Kelley Millikin, a long time Hilliard resident. Hilliard has a lot of great restaurants, but it really needed a real-deal barbecue restaurant. Dickey’s smokes high quality, fresh meat every day in our barbecue pit (smoker). Dickey’s smokes brisket and pulled pork each night at 225 degrees for 13 – 14 hours, and we smoke boneless chicken and turkey breasts, fall off-the-bone tender ribs, and both polish and cheddar jalapeno sausages throughout the day. We proudly display our fresh meat in our walk-in refrigerator so our guests can see the high-quality products that we use. Dickey’s side dishes are made

fresh daily and are very family friendly. At Dickey’s our guests can dine in the restaurant or take family meals home. We have online ordering at www.dickeys.com – our guests can order online and use our convenient pickup window. We have 3 different Family Pack options, so you can order for a large or small group. Dickey’s also specializes in catering all types of events from large company picnics and weddings to office meetings and graduations. If you would like to discuss catering with Dickey’s please call Kelley Millikin at 614.832.3399 or stop in Dickey’s and ask for a Pit Boss (manager).

Enrollment Underway for Workers’ Comp Premium Discount Programs Do Not Miss your Opportunity to Save! Did your organization complete a Temporary Authorization to Review Information (AC-3) form earlier this spring as part of our workers’ compensation member benefit? If so, your organization should now be in receipt of your savings analysis from our program administrator, CompManagement, as long as your company was found to be eligible to participate in a premium discount program for the upcoming 2018 policy year. Although the actual premium paid by individual private employers for workers’ compensation coverage in Ohio depends on a number of factors, employers are always encouraged to learn more about programs that can assist in lowering their workers’ compensation costs. If you are reviewing savings quotes from other group administrators, please make sure that you are examining them thoroughly to ensure that you are comparing similar discounts and service offerings. This important decision affects how much you pay in workers’ compensation premiums, as well as who will be handling any claims incurred by your injured employees. Please make sure to return your enrollment documents timely to ensure your participation. The deadline to enroll in a Group Rating program per the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) for the upcoming 2018 policy year is Monday, November 20, 2017. If your organization is not eligible for Group Rating for the 2018 policy year, there are other options and discounts available (Group Retrospective Rating, Individual Retrospective Rating, EM Cap, One Claim, Destination Excellence, etc.) that offer a variety of discounts and may be compatible with other programs for potentially larger savings. The enrollment deadline for these programs is January 31, 2018. We encourage you to explore your best savings option with our CompManagement representative, Rejeana Woolum-Napier, to see how your organization can realize your maximum savings for 2018. Rejeana may be reached at (614) 359-2403 or via email at [email protected]. Don’t miss your opportunity to reduce your workers’ compensation premium for 2018 – act now!
