Improved Lock-on AF

AF mode

When your subject is moving fast, 11fps continuous shooting with superior AF tracking performance ensures you capture the decisive moment. This feature makes the most of the superb tracking performance of Sony’s wide-area 179 phase-detection AF points to accurately track your subject anywhere on the screen. Three settings are provided: 11fps (hi), 6fps (mid) and 2.5fps (low).

Fast Hybrid AF provides extremely accurate focusing and smooth subject tracking even while shooting movies. You can now adjust AF tracking duration* and AF drive speed* as well.

Even when capturing a subject partially turned away from the camera with a shallow depth of field, the face is sharply focused thanks to extremely accurate Eye AF. A green frame appears over the prioritized eye when focus has been achieved.

Now more accurate than ever, due to advances in phase-detection AF, Lockon AF enhances tracking of moving subjects by adjusting target frame size to match subject characteristics and ensuring usage of the optimal AF point at all times.

Matching the focus mode to the subject assures super-sharp results. You can choose the AF-A*, AF-S, AF-C, DMF or MF mode. The 6000 is the first E-mount camera to offer AF-A, and displays the active AF points even in the AF-C mode.

Reality in breathtaking detail

24.3-megapixel Exmor TM APS HD CMOS sensor Create images of astounding beauty that surpass your expectations with Sony’s newly developed 24.3-effectivemegapixel APS-C image sensor. The same size as found in most DSLRs, this sophisticated sensor offers high resolution, high sensitivity in dimly lit environments and strikingly attractive foreground and background defocusing.

You’ll enjoy the increased light collecting efficiency of a gapless on-chip lens structure, extremely low noise throughout a wide sensitivity range of ISO 100 to 25600, and superb corner-to-corner image quality with lifelike color, supreme detail and smooth tonal gradations that reveal every nuance of your scene.

Sony is the world’s No. 1 manufacturer of image sensors for digital cameras and video recorders (based on Sony research from April 2012 to March 2013 that shows Sony has a 50% market share).

BIONZ X TM image processing engine Astonishingly fast, Sony’s sophisticated BIONZ X image processing engine reproduces textures and details in real time as seen by the naked eye. The resulting images are remarkably realistic with especially rich tonal gradations and a natural three-dimensional appearance. Whether shooting still images or mov-

ies, noise is nearly imperceptible thanks to further advanced area-specific noise reduction. Detail reproduction technology delivers more finely detailed textures and diffraction-reducing technology optimizes the performance of any lens you mount to enable advances such as finer details at small aperture settings.

Convert everyday scenes into works of art by applying any of 13 modes (including Miniature, Pop Color and Retro Photo) to your photos and movies. You can view the effects in real-time on the LCD screen or viewfinder before taking your shot.

User-friendly icons make it easy to switch between single-shot, continuous, bracketed and self-timer shooting. Selectable parameters include selftimer shooting with a 2 or 10-second delay and bracketing with your choice of exposure, white balance or DRO. PC remote is also selectable.

Relax and enjoy the convenience of point-and-shoot operation. Superior Auto mode automatically detects and analyzes shooting conditions and adjusts camera settings accordingly to achieve optimal results. It even activates advanced functions like continuous shooting and Auto HDR when appropriate.

Utilizing proprietary By Pixel Super Resolution Technology, this feature digitally zooms the center of your image up to 2x with nearly imperceptible degradation. It virtually doubles your zooming range to that of telephoto lenses when using a standard lens or to that of super telephoto lenses when using a telephoto lens.

Scene Selection

Auto Object Framing

Photo Creativity

Optimize image quality for the type of scene you shoot by choosing one of 9 Scene Selection modes, including Portrait, Sports Action, Macro and Sunset. The 6000 will then adjust settings to ensure optimal results. It’s a great way to take the guesswork out of difficult shots.

Give your photos a professional look with Auto Object Framing. This savvy function analyzes portraits, close-ups or images of moving subjects then crops copies of them after you take the shot to produce photos with maximum appeal. Sony’s By Pixel Super Resolution Technology prevents any marked loss of image quality.

Enjoy creative photographic expression by entering the Photo Creativity mode. It provides easy access to most Picture Effect settings as well as controls for adjusting Background Defocus, Brightness, Color and Vividness while viewing the results in real-time. Combining settings enables nearly unlimited creative control.

Anti-dust system

MF Assist

Peaking

To keep images blemish-free, a special static-free coating on the low-pass filter covering the image sensor helps prevent dust from adhering. The filter is also vibrated ultrasonically every time the camera is switched off to dislodge dust particles that may have settled on its surface during lens changes.

The MF Assist function helps you achieve sharp focusing manually via convenient focusing ring. By magnifying the area of the image on which focus is being performed, at your choice of approx. 5.9x or 11.7x, it lets you super-finetune the focus exactly as you desire. It’s especially ideal when taking close-ups or shooting at wide apertures.

This handy feature can be activated to colorize the most sharply focused areas of your image so you can quickly confirm whether manual focusing needs further adjustment. Both the level of sensitivity and highlight color are adjustable.

Note: The following modes are not displayed in real-time and cannot be applied to movies: HDR Painting, Rich-tone Monochrome, Soft Focus, Miniature, Illustration and Watercolor.

Auto HDR (High Dynamic Range)

DRO (D-Range Optimizer)

Creative Style

Auto HDR expands the dynamic range of your images from dark shadows to bright highlights to capture all the tonal gradations seen by your naked eye. It instantly shoots three exposures and composites the best details from each in the highlights, mid-tones and shadows — at high speed — to create a single image with an extremely wide dynamic range.

DRO corrects difficult shots to achieve smoother, more natural gradations with more detail in the highlights and shadows. When a backlit subject’s face is dark, for example, it recovers details in the shadows to deliver a naturally bright image. You can also use it during continuous shooting and when shooting moving subjects. DRO

Creative Style settings bring out the character of your scene. Simply select any of 13 settings (Standard, Vivid, Neutral, Clear, Portrait, Landscape, etc.) and the camera will adjust color and other image parameters accordingly. You can also fine-tune contrast, saturation* and sharpness to achieve just the right finishing touch. * Not available when B/W or Sepia mode is selected.

4K Still Image Output and TRILUMINOS™ Color View your still images at breathtaking size and resolution on big-screen 4K-compatible TVs. Simply connect the 6000 with the television via HDMI cable or Wi-Fi and it will optimize output for maximum 4K viewing enjoyment. Sony’s “TRILUMINOS Color” also allows you to view photos and movies in rich, natural colors on any TV equipped with a “TRILUMINOS Display.” The expanded color gamut lets you immerse yourself once again in those unforgettably colorful moments, from the complex shades in a shimmering blue sky to the natural tones of a rosy complexion.
