FOLLOW Introduction

Unfollow, John Alexander May 24/25, 2014

There are benefits to following Jesus that are so rare and wonderful it’s impossible to be fulfilled without them. But when the challenges of life happen—your spouse gets diagnosed with cancer, your friend fights against infertility, or your family struggles financially—you may face the temptation to unfollow Jesus. But if you don’t give up, you develop unshakeable faith, build extraordinary strength, and experience life to its fullest.

Discussion Questions

1. Read James 1:2-4. Seasons of difficulty and disappointment can help us develop a faith that’s unshakeable. John Alexander said he developed unshakeable faith in the Seahawks and it paid off when they won the Super Bowl. Where in your life has sticking it out paid off? 2. Many things in this world will give you a sense of life—money, power, fame, and security. But there is only one who can offer us fullness and vitality: Jesus. What people, places or things give you energy? How can you look to Jesus practically and daily for rejuvenation? 3. The Bible is filled with story after story of God giving strength to his followers that extend far beyond their current capacity. Share a time when you felt the strength of God in the face of impossible circumstances. 4. The warning signs of an unfollower include: believing the Bible is boring or church isn’t a priority, communicating with God is non-existent, a life event has led to serious doubt, inconvenience, complacency or a general drift. Is there a specific warning sign you need to pay attention to in your life?
