Course Description The IT Governance course is intended to provide people who are accountable for an IT Service Management Program, portions of it and/or individual IT Service Management processes with the knowledge and techniques required to be able to ensure governance of their area(s) of accountability. It will cover the concepts of governance, the difference between governance and management, the need for and value of governance, and the benefits of a scheduled, evidence-based approach to governance and the significance of COBIT to IT governance. Although a basic understanding of ITIL® V3 is assumed, there is a brief recap of the ITIL® architecture so that it can be used as a baseline for understanding IT Service Management and how it relates to other frameworks – especially those related to governance. Understand the importance and benefits of good IT governance Gain awareness of IT governance methodologies and frameworks Understand the differences between governance and management Understand the relationships between management and governance frameworks Refresh your overall knowledge of ITIL® V3 architecture Understand the overall relationship between ITIL®, applicable ISO standards, COBIT, COSO, SOX, CMM/CMMI and Six Sigma Understand the strengths and weaknesses of these disciplines/standards Understand the basics of COBIT – its architecture and history, the four IT resource areas and four process domains Gain insight into how to plan, develop and deploy IT Service Management and Governance coherently Gain awareness of IT Governance pre-requisites Understand Governance roles, responsibilities and accountabilities Gain awareness of how a task-driven evidence-based approach can make governance integral to day-to-day operations.

Duration This virtual, instructor-led IT Governance course is conducted over 2 consecutive morning or afternoon sessions, each lasting 4 hours. Target Audience • • • •

IT Managers and Service Management practitioners. IT Service Management Process Owners and managers Internal Auditors who will be reviewing IT Service Management governance Internal or External consultants advising or implementing governance measures.

Prerequisites There are no mandatory prerequisites, although a basic knowledge of ITIL ® V3 would be helpful. Number of Participants A maximum of 25 people can attend this virtual course.

Course Outline Session 1: Participant introductions and individual objectives, Need for and benefits of Governance, Management and Governance, Governance and Management frameworks and methodologies, the ITIL® V3 architecture, the architecture of COBIT, Session Checkpoint Session  2:  Recap  of  Session  1,  how  ITIL®  and  COBIT  map  to  each  other,  Planning,  developing  and   deploying  IT  governance,  IT  governance  prerequisites,  IT  governance  in  operation  -­‐  roles,   responsibilities  and  accountabilities,    Course  Evaluation
