RANK: LIEUTENANT JOINED: 2004 SPECIALISATION: WARFARE PREVIOUS UNITS: HMS CAMPBELTOWN, ILLUSTRIOUS, HURWORTH, SEVERN, CLYDE, DRAGON. Military experience Lieutenant James Martin joined the Royal Navy in January 2004, attending Britannia Royal Naval College and including a period in Campbeltown during the final stages of Her deployment to the Mediterranean. He completed his Fleet time training in Illustrious, on exercise and operations east of Suez, and in Hurworth both on Fishery Protection duties and mine hunting operations in support of the Trafalgar 200 Fleet Review. His first complement appointment was as an Officer of the Watch in Nottingham, deploying to the Mediterranean and the South Atlantic. Subsequently, he served as the Operations Officer and Watch Navigator on HMS Severn, on UK Fishery Protection duties, and in the Falkland Islands Patrol Vessel, HMS Clyde. In 2010 he joined HMS Dragon as Her first Navigator whilst She was in build, completing contractor sea trials and bringing Her into the Service. He was appointed Commanding Officer of HMS Archer and Officer-in-Charge of East Scotland Universities’ Royal Navy Unit in April 2012.
