From the Top... President’s Message Wow! 2011 was a fast year! My term as your President has come to an end and it really did pass quickly. I enjoyed getting to know new members and members whose paths I had not crossed in my Chamber travels. It was a privilege to lead a group that truly believes in putting their best foot forward and truly walks the talk. If you have not yet sent in your response card for the Installation cocktail party don‘t wait another minute; join us. We’d love to have you celebrate Tami Khuntia’s installation as President along with the rest of the 2012 Board of Directors and enjoy an evening with the Chamber. We’ve got some great people in our membership ranks and this is your chance to meet them! Our 2012 Board of Directors looks forward to working for you in the year ahead. Speaking of our membership,

we’re very proud of the fact that our membership numbers have been solid over the past couple of years. We know that many of you have struggled in the past year, and wanted to be sure that we said thank you for renewing your membership for 2012. Our staff works hard to give you marketing value for your membership dollars. The renewal rate has told us loud and clear that you acknowledge that value. Nothing, however, is beyond improvement. Please share with us any suggestions or concerns that you may have regarding our Chamber. We are always looking to improve and need your feedback to do that.

or Vendor Sponsorship in your Marketing budgets for 2012. This event drew over 180 professional career women last year. Your marketing dollars will be well spent reaching your target market through this event! I would like to close out my last letter by thanking Keloryn Putnam, our Chamber’s Executive Director and her staff, Donna Cameli and Bonnie Hollaway. Their work ethic and efforts have consistently kept our Chamber running like a well oiled machine. My year as President was undoubtedly less chaotic because of their dedication.

Amy Grace Coghill, President Silver Lake Country Club

Start making plans now to be a part of our 2012 Women’s Luncheon. The Luncheon will take place at Silver Lake Country Club on Tuesday, April 17. Our OWN Committee is aiming to “knock our socks off” with their innovative ideas! Include a Table Sponsorship

Thanks again for allowing me to serve as your President in 2011. It was truly my honor!

Board of Directors Just a reminder now that we are into the winter season, parking is prohibited on village streets once two inches of snow have fallen. Trained crews work around the clock during storms to keep the roads open and passable. The village’s Snow Removal/Ice Control Program includes all streets and highways within the village with the exception of state thoroughfares such as LaGrange Road and 159th Street; county streets such as 108th Avenue and 104th Avenue and township and private roads. For a complete listing of roads and jurisdictions, visit the village’s website at www.orland-park. il.us.

The village will host the Twelfth Annual Chefs’ Auction to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Breast Cancer Research Program on Thursday, February 16 at the Orland Chateau. Some of the best restaurants in the area participate in this event offering samples of their signature dishes and donating wonderful auction packages. Corporate tables of ten are $600 and include a reserved table, quarter page ad in the program and a table centerpiece. Businesses unable to attend have the opportunity to support this worthy cause and promote their business by purchasing an ad in the event program. Individual tickets are $55 per person or $90 per couple. Be sure to purchase your tickets early as this event always sells out and only 300 tickets will be sold. For tickets and information, please call the Recreation Department at 4037275.

Sincerely, Daniel J. McLaughlin, Mayor Village of Orland Park

OP Special Services Offers Centralized Info and Help and complete everything all in one stop,” he said, adding, “It’s quick and convenient.”

The Village of Orland Park Office of Special Services debuted Veterans Day, 2002. Since that time, the office has processed thousands of passports, enrolled hundreds of village residents in its Medical Identification Program, offered services and seminars for area veterans and held a number of seminars and specialty programs of interest to the community throughout the year. “The passport service is a big hit with the community,” said Orland Park Village Clerk David Maher. “People can make an appointment and find out what they need to apply for a passport, come in, get their picture taken

Orland Park’s Medical Identification Bracelet Program keeps confidential medical information on file with the Police Department in the event of an emergency. Participants wear the bracelet with an individually assigned code that corresponds to their information on file with the Police Department. If someone with one of our bracelets is unconscious or unable to communicate with emergency personnel, their information is on file with the Police Department and the responding officer can access it on the call. Nearly 600 village residents have joined the village’s bracelet program. The Rapid Recovery Program, also offered in conjunction

with the Police Department, is an electronic tracking system that will locate a resident who might have Alzheimer’s, autism or other special needs. Participants wear a personalized wrist band that emits a tracking signal. When caregivers notify the Police of a missing person, a search and rescue team responds, using the mobile tracking system. Special Services sponsors a number of seminars throughout the year. Past topics have included presentations with the National Alliance for Mental Illness, social networking site awareness for parents, safety seminars for college bound students and their parents, identity theft, transition seminars for parents of children with developmental disabilities, financial and banking fairs for village employees and residents, financial aid seminars for college bound students, understanding Medicare Part D, energy assistance fairs for residents having trouble paying utility bills, bi-annual coffees for seniors and health and job

Member Spotlight2012 the quality instructor training and job placement offered at SCUBA EMPORIUM. SCUBA DIVING IN THE MIDWEST, WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT? Back in 1974 when Patrick Hammer opened his first store, most people had no idea what SCUBA was about. Today millions of divers are certified and the world knows all about SCUBA and a large percentage of people are divers. Patrick is one of only 50 PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Platinum course directors in the world. Over ten years ago, Hammer realized the need to move his store from Alsip to Orland Park. Orland was a growing area and he wanted to be the one to bring SCUBA to this dynamic community. This move proved to be one of the best moves SCUBA EMPORIUM has ever made. The store located at 16336 S. 104th Avenue has a training pool and offers swim classes, snorkeling classes and weekly entry level training for PADI. Having received many industry awards, SCUBA EMPORIUM is one of the strongest names in the Dive Industry. One of their most notable achievements was awarded for their Career Development Center.

was most proud of his involvement in creating a local dive site for dive enthusiasts in Lake Michigan. With Lake Michigan clearing up and offering up to 60 foot visibility, Hammer was instrumental in this creation by helping sink a 200 foot long ship in Lake Michigan. This dive site has become one of the key dive spots in the area. It is a safe wreck with lots of fish. Such manmade dives sites, or as we call them man made reefs, also have the added benefit of adding to the environment as they are great fish habitats.

Opening a SCUBA store in the Midwest was a true risk, but today SCUBA EMPORIUM runs SCUBA trips all over the world. Taking SCUBA enthusiasts on tours has proved to be a great way to see the world for Patrick and his crew. The store offers local trips and exotic travel to the Caribbean and the South Pacific. Our Instructor led trips are a great way to see the underwater world in these unfamiliar places and learn about the interesting critters that inhabit their waters. SCUBA is a great way to enhance any travel experience.

Has SCUBA been a secret interest for you? Stop into SCUBA EMPORIUM and see what it’s all about. SCUBA EMPORIUM has one of the best stocked show rooms and can handle all your snorkeling and SCUBA needs. You can reach Patrick at (708) 226-1614.

Children’s diving programs are conducted by Sherry Hammer. The SASY programs are for kids ages five to eight. They can enroll in the Seal Team and Master Seal Team programs as well as the snorkeling courses and even CPR. At age 10, children can enroll in the full SCUBA certification courses. We’re proud of the fact that our range of programs appeals to ages 5 to 75. Patrick Hammer
