FROM THE SENIOR PASTOR
Dear church and friends of Collierville UMC: “You shall be like a watered garden…” - Isaiah 58:11 A vegetable garden, lush and blooming is a sign of home for many. It is a sign that one has been there long enough for things to grow. It shows that one has created a space for something to take root and to flower, that a cycle of life in seasons is happening. This is the image chosen by Isaiah for the re-entering Hebrew people who have been away for such a long time. The prophet calls the people to some very pragmatic behaviors as a way of blooming: loosing bonds of injustice, sharing bread and room with the hungry and homeless, removing accusation and blame. If the Hebrews do these things, Isaiah says, “the Lord will…satisfy your needs and make your bones strong” and “make you like a watered garden…whose waters never fail.” To be a well-watered garden of the Spirit calls one to deeds and words of justice and mercy. To have one’s parched places watered is to look around one’s workplace and to help make changes for the better of all people. To feel our bones made strong is to sense the atmosphere in our homes and to refuse to assign blame and become repairers of the breach, healers of the wounded. Allowing God to grant a vision of how one’s own home, church or community demands a word of justice and mercy is the first shower to fall on parched land. Heeding the vision, taking the appropriate steps and being faithful in following through turn the dry land into a well-watered garden. May God grant such a vision and the grace required to make it so.

[ CHURCH OPS ] From your church operational team: To Know Christ and to Make Him Known Operational Team Over this past year, a group of 11 fellow Collierville UMC members including our pastors have met monthly for a full day of worship, prayer and seeking God’s guidance as he shapes our church for the future. This Collierville UMC operational team is prayerfully discerning a clear vision and core values that will guide us as a church to reflect passionate, Christcentered Disciples seeking to transform lives for Him.
shaped by the spiritual life of their leaders and one of our goals is for us all churchwide to be conformed to the image of Christ and be a servant to others who don’t know Him. As we continue to pray for God’s guidance in all that we do, we are developing strategies to help guide Collierville UMC in this ever changing world, with our ultimate goal remaining to bring people to Christ. We all want a spiritual vitality that is contagious and for our entire church to have a role in leadership. Please be in continued prayer for this church that we all love.

Exciting things are happening at Peace Tree We finished strong in 2016 with a growing core group of volunteers and Launch Team members, a successful run of Preview Worship Services at the Malco Towne Cinema, and a worshipful evening during our 2nd annual Carols & Candlelight which welcomed 140 neighbors on the town square. As we gear up for 2017, we’re holding weekly Preview Worship Services at the Malco Collierville. These weekly services are preparing us for our Launch Day on Sunday, February 5th at 10:00 a.m. when we’re celebrating the Soup-er Bowl of Caring! Each family will be encouraged to bring canned goods to benefit the Collierville Food Pantry. Children and families are also welcome to wear their rec league jerseys, cheer uniforms, team colors, and Super Bowl Sunday gear. You can support Peace Tree by dining at the Mellow Mushroom Germantown on Tuesday, January 24th from 5pm until close (if you go before 5:00, be sure to tell your server that you’re supporting Peace Tree). A portion of every meal purchased will be given to Peace Tree in support of our ministries. As always, we covet your prayers and we thank God for the love you’ve shown us as our Mother church.
