And the Lord spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘When you pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan, then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you and destroy all their figured stones and destroy all their metal images and demolish all their high places. And you shall take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given the land to you to possess it. You shall inherit the land by lot according to your clans. To a large tribe you shall give a large inheritance, and to a small tribe you shall give a small inheritance. Wherever the lot falls for anyone, that shall be his. According to the tribes of your fathers you shall inherit. But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then those of them whom you let remain shall be as barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall trouble you in the land where you dwell. And I will do to you as I thought to do to them.’” Numbers 33:50-56 ESV

Affirming Our Faith The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, And of all things visible and invisible: And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, Begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of very God, Begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, By whom all things were made; Who for us men, and for our salvation came down from heaven, And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, and was made man, And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered, was buried, and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, And ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father. And he shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead: Whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke by the prophets. And I believe one catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins. And I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen!

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING TO BE HELD NEXT SUNDAY, JANUARY 28TH FOLLOWING WORSHIP – The Session has called a Congregational Meeting next Sunday for three purposes: 1) Hear and act on the report of the Officer Nominating Committee regarding their nominees for Elder, Deacon, and Trustee in the Class of 2021. Nominations may be made from the floor if the person to be nominated has been contacted ahead of time and has agreed to serve, if elected, including participation in the Officer Training classes. (A list of their nominees will be available in the church office beginning January 23rd, and will also be posted on the web site that day.) 2) Hear the report of Session concerning the 2018 budget and vote to affirm our support of it. 3) Approve any changes to Pastors’ Terms of Call.

The Classic Service will conclude a bit early so that those attending that service may proceed to the Christian Life Center, and join the folks worshiping at the Convergent Service in King Hall at the conclusion of their service for the meeting. Please be in prayer for these important matters in the life of our church, and plan to arrange your schedule so you can remain for the meeting. CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER LIST AVAILABLE – Each week you will find a page listing the current prayer needs of the congregation in the back of King Hall and at the Welcome Center outside of the Sanctuary. Please take one and use it as a way of supporting members of your church family in prayer. If you would like to have a name added to the list, please call the church office at 706-291-6033. FOOD! FUN! FELLOWSHIP! PIPS MONTHLY LUNCHEON – Our PIPS luncheon will be Thursday, January 25th at 11:30am in the Fellowship Hall. Lunch will be catered by Duffy’s Delli and our guest speaker will be Rev. Jeff Chadwick who will speak on the topic “What the ‘Young’ns’ Need From Us”. Join us for great food, fun and fellowship. Please contact the church office to make your reservations. WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDIES – The study of Job, led by Amanda Davidson continues Tuesdays at 1:30pm in Hardy Classroom #1 and Thursdays at 8:00am in the Van Dyke Room. CARRY ON THE CONVERSATION (Each week we use this space to provide a glimpse into what our children are learning in Children’s Worship, and what you might ask to “carry on the conversation” with them at home.)

Key Theme: All God’s purposes are right. (Deuteronomy 32:3-4) It is wrong to judge God and question His purposes. Ask: What are some ways that we can fight the fight of faith and keep believing in the goodness of God in difficult situations? Is there someone you can tell this week about the goodness of God?

If you are like me, you probably do not think about heaven as much as you should. But in this upcoming Wednesday night series, we will take some time to exercise our biblical imaginations on heaven—and ultimately the new heaven and the new earth—and consider not only how amazing it will be and all the things we will do there, but also how our hope for the future will significantly impact our perspective, our attitudes, and our actions in this life today.
