From the Pastor Automaker Henry Ford asked electrical genius Charlie Steinmetz to build the generators for his factory. One day the generators ground to a halt, and the repairmen couldn’t find the problem. So Ford called Steinmetz, who tinkered with the machines for a few hours and then threw the switch. The generators whirred to life – but Ford got a bill for $10,000 from Steinmetz. Flabbergasted, the rather tightfisted car maker inquired why the bill was so high. Steinmetz’s reply: For tinkering with the generators, $10. For knowing where to tinker, $9,990. Ford paid the bill. The three men we remember today are a mystery. We don’t know anything about their origin except that they were from the east. They must have been wealthy, because traveling was costly and they brought expensive gifts. They had to have some social status, because no ordinary person would be brought in to consult with the king. The gospel calls them magi, a Greek term for those who studied the stars and astrology. Traditionally we call them the three Wise Men. They were not the only ones studying the skies each night for signs. Even those who were not trained looked up into the dark night and saw the amazing display of heavenly objects lighting the sky. Why were these the only ones to be drawn to come see the baby and Mary his mother? Their example is important for us. God was revealing that he was present in our world in a new and dramatic way. Anyone could look up to the night sky and there it was. But, only these three saw the sign. Perhaps they were more spiritual in their interpretations of the signs of the heavens. Perhaps they were simply given a special

gift to be the representative of all those outside the Chosen People who were also called to kneel before the Savior. In the end we don’t know. But, they were willing to let God lead them wherever he wished to take them. That was their true wisdom. When our life is comfortable and we are happy and content, we are surrounded by signs of how much God loves us and blesses us. He is leading us to live with a spirit of gratitude and generosity, if we will only follow. When we are discouraged or the way seems difficult, God is reminding us that he is in control and inviting us to humbly trust that he is leading us where we need to be, if we will only follow, he will carry us through the darkness. Every day we meet other people. Some we love, some we do not care for. Some are pleasant, some are difficult. Every person is loved completely by God. And he is inviting us to welcome them as he does, and care for them as he does, and forgive them as he does. With every person God is inviting us to follow his example and bless them. These three were not the last Wise Men. We also have signs every day leading us where God wants us to be. We can control our attitude, our words, our actions. But, these are just the little details that we tinker with every day. God wants us to know something greater. When we remember that the Baby born in Bethlehem came to share everything with us and we give the gift of our self to him each day, he will lead us to where God wants us to be. And if we let him lead, we too will be wise. – Fr. Stephen W Bierschenk

Montañez, 214-674-0434 Los generadores regresaron a vida Ministros Ext.

– Fr. Stephen W Bierschenk
