Explorers Development Plan Week 1- January 3-6 Objective:

What’s Happening:

New semester begins on 1-3-17 Closed Monday, January 16th for MLK Day

*Explore different states of matter.

Environment: Blocks- Provide large sheets of butcher paper for children to trace blocks and other objects. Place Big line, little lines, small curves and big curves for children to form letters and trace. Add large Dinosaur themed floor puzzles and dinosaurs of different types and sizes. Dramatic Play- Set up a Doctor’s office for children to use imaginary play. Add doctor kits, stethoscopes, lab coats and clip boards. Offer a sign-in are for children to sign-in and practice writing their names and the names of their friends. Writing- Place HWOT sticks and curves with large sheets of paper for children to form letters and trace around. Practice writing lines from left to right with Dino tracing sheets. Work on configuration clues with each child’s name and have them guess which name belongs to whom by the outline. Group Time- Read about Dinosaurs and learn many facts about size, diet and type. Do a fun activity that demonstrates the size difference between dinosaurs and everyday objects. Introduce the letter D and start a D-list page of words. Practice phonologic awareness through alliteration books.

Small Group- Work writing and forming the letter D in our HWOT workbooks. Learn about dinosaurs through games. Practice counting and matching amounts to their numerals with a die game. Play dominoes and Dino bingo. Fine Motor- Use scissors to cut out dinosaur templates, close and open clothes pins to build letters and names, use bingo dabbers and make hand print art. Science/Math- Learn about Dinosaurs through pictures and books. Explore dinosaurs in their natural environment at the sensory table – add dirt, sticks, rocks and grass. Practice rote counting 1:1 correspondence and numeric identification.
