Come to the Table of the Lord

Opportunities for Service & Welcome ...... Richard Summers

Come to the table where the bread is broken. Come to the table where the word of God is spoken. And take this bread into your life as a token. Come to the table of the Lord. Come to the table and drink this wine. Come to the table believing in this sign. Renew your spirit with this food divine. Come to the table of the Lord. Hungry and thirsty, we come, Lord to Thee. We humbly bow on bended knee. Come to the table and dwell in God’s light. Come to the table and kneel before his sight. Join in communion and know His holy might. Come to the table of the Lord. Come to the table of the Lord. Amen

† Missions Moment † Grace is one of 13 members of a leadership cohort, a followup program of a shelter, which offers further mentoring and development opportunities. When she was 18 years old, she and her 7-year-old sister were homeless and without a place to go. Though they tried for many months to survive, they continued to struggle and came to the verge of suicide. Her sister asked her if they could try going to an organization one more time. This organization referred her to us and she and her sister immediately entered our shelter. Today, Grace is now 22 years old and is working full time, which allows her to provide for herself and young sister. She has also just completed her first year of university in Business Administration. Grace, like many graduates, has developed a passion for sharing what God has done in her life with her community. She is now a translator and leader in her church choir. She has also developed an outreach program through her church to minister among other vulnerable and homeless refugee women. Her life is one of many powerful testimonies of God's powerful work through our shelter program. - Missy Ward-Angalla, CBF field personnel Kampala, Uganda

† Announcements † WELCOME: This morning we welcome Dr. Keith Stillwell as our new Interim Minister of Spiritual Formation. What blessings God has poured on First Baptist with Keith, Jenny, and Marcus! NEW BOOK STUDY – STICKY FAITH: Parents and Grandparents of Children and Teens, come connect with others raising their children in the Christian faith. You are not alone! Parents and Grandparents long to pass on their faith to their children and grandchildren and to see them grow in the Lord. Sticky Faith Guide for Your Family by Dr. Kara Powell will be the basis for discussion facilitated by Jaime McKown. It is a book of practical suggestions based on research about how adults can develop an action plan to point their kids toward long-term faith. The four week group begins Sunday, January 13, 4:00-5:30 pm, at the church. Books are available for $10 in the church office. Sign up on the bulletin board. See Jaime McKown for more information. NEW BOOK STUDY – GRATEFUL: Grateful by Diana Butler Bass will provide us a wonderful discussion opportunity to talk about Grace, Gratitude, and Love. Butler Bass believes gratitude flows from grace and like a pebble thrown into a pond, results in ripples and waves moving out from us in concentric circles. It first connects us to family and friends expanding to our local community and, finally, to global citizens. She describes true gratitude as always moving from “me” to “we”. This ever expanding circle of gratitude is “moved by love.” The noon book study begins Tuesday, January 15, in fellowship hall and will be facilitated by Dwight Lovan; sign up on the bulletin board. Books, $10, are available in the church office. If you would like to participate in this group from home via video conferencing, please let the church office know. ROMEO BREAKFAST: The FBC ROMEOs will resume their breakfasts next Thursday, January 10, 9:00 am, at Tammy’s Diner.

† Announcements † THE BARNABAS GROUP 2019 KICKOFF: The Barnabas Group will kick off the new year with TWO January events. First, there will be a short meeting before Sunday School, 9:15 am on January 13. Join us for a cup of coffee, a doughnut, and a brief rundown of the year to come. You can pick up a copy of the proposed list of events for 2019. There will also be an opportunity to discuss and sign up for the service projects discussed in September. For the second January event, Mona Carpenter will host a "Tea" in her home on Saturday, January 26, 2:00-4:00. This will be a relaxing time of coffee/tea/cookies/sandwiches and getting to know each other better. Sign up on the bulletin board and bring an appetizer of dessert to share. All those 55+ are welcome! Dear FBC Family, Lee and the kids and I thank you for the lovely reception and the generous gift you gave us as we said goodbye in December. Your kindness, generosity and love will be with us always. I pray for FBC daily and look forward to seeing all that God will do in and through you in 2019! With Deep Gratitude, Cynthia
