Norwich Theatre Royal is East Anglia’s leading theatre, presenting a high quality mix of drama, musicals, opera, dance, comedy, music, children’s and family shows all year round. With 1300 seats, the Theatre Royal is the largest venue in Norfolk, and plays a very active part in the cultural life of the region. Norwich Playhouse, which is managed by Norwich Theatre Royal, is a 300-seat riverside venue in Norwich and, like the Theatre Royal, also presents a diverse range of shows at the mid-scale. Stage Two is the newest member of the Theatre Royal family and is a building immediately adjacent to Theatre Royal that is dedicated to Learning & Participation and home to studio and training spaces as well as a 100 seat Studio Theatre. Norwich Theatre Royal is a registered charity (no. 262259) and a not-for profit organisation. All surpluses generated are re-invested in our building, artistic ambitions and to supporting an extensive Learning & Participation programme. It is looking for a digital communications officer to help promote the Theatre Royal’s activities on and off stage across multiple online platforms. JOB DESCRIPTION Job title:

Salary:

£19,000 per annum

Hours:

37.5 hrs per week. This will include occasional evening & weekend working.

Holiday Entitlement:

4 weeks p.a. plus statutory holidays rising to 5 weeks after five years

OBJECTIVE To maximise all digital communications as a means to promote the organisation’s activities both on & off stage.

Key Responsibilities Social Media • To run targeted, co-ordinated and timed postings across social media in liaison with the digital marketing manager • Monitoring production websites and other venues for material that can be shared • Taking responsibility for delivery of the digital elements of communications campaigns Creative • Recording, filming, editing and uploading of interviews and vox pops as well as identifying new outlets for content • Creating gifs and stills for the theatre’s communications campaigns • Assisting with the production of podcasts for the Norwich Theatre Royal website, creating ready-to-air audio packages for radio stations, as well as assisting with the development of blogging and vlogging of productions/shows • Generating content for the News Blog and then servicing this with press releases, podcasts, videos etc • Preparation of broadcast quality audio and video material for a range of regional media outlets and social media • Work offsite on an occasional basis preparing content linked to productions and community event Evaluation • Measuring the effectiveness of content created and published online Media Relations • Attend press nights and film audience reactions to shows and productions, when required • Work with both national PR companies and smaller agencies who represent a variety of production companies. You will also liaise with the digital media/communications departments of other large scale touring venues • Providing cover for other members of the communications team’s annual leave, sickness or unavailability • Keeping up to date with developments/changes in media/social media operations and trends Organisational wide responsibilities •

PERSON SPECIFICATION We are looking for an outgoing, confident and creative person who is passionate about theatre and understands all aspects of digital communications. Experience and knowledge • Extensive experience of working to deadlines • Experienced user of a range of digital technology with the ability to produce stills, video, audio and online content • Able to demonstrate the production or creation of digital content for promotional or marketing use • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Skills and qualifications • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people at all levels externally and internally • Qualification in or demonstrable professional experience of different types of digital communications • Experience of using editing suites such as Adobe and audio-editing software such as Audacity • A full driving licence and access to a car is desirable Attributes • Accuracy and a keen eye for detail • Ability to take responsibility for social media campaigns • An interest in the arts and a desire to work in the creative industries • Flexibility to work some evenings and occasional weekends It is a requirement of Norwich Theatre Royal and Playhouse that all employees work in a co-operative and flexible manner and carry out other duties that are commensurate with the level of responsibility and skills of their position.
