Assistant Director of Financial Aid and Data Management Vice President of Student Life and Enrollment Management

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: This position provides leadership for the effective administration of Denver Seminary student financial assistance programs. Additionally, the position focuses on the effective tracking, monitoring and evaluation of student admissions and financial aid data. The position will: • Assume responsibility for generation of data and statistical analysis from both Admissions and Financial Aid for the support of enrollment objectives • Oversee the data management staff that assist in this role • Manage and ensure service and counsel to students, families and other constituents in relation to financial aid matters. A team-oriented approach and commitment to excellent customer service are essential, as the assistant director will take a leadership role in collaboration with other offices, committees, and individuals in formulating policies and practices in respect to financial aid and data management. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. In coordination with the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, leverages the use of student financial assistance to meet the department’s recruitment and retention goals 2. Monitors federal regulations from the U.S. Department of Education regarding the Title IV Direct Loan program (D.L.), and Federal Work Study program (F.W.S.); attends webinars and off-site state/regional/national training conferences as necessary; advises director regarding compliance. 3. Manages the Direct Loan programs, which includes Federal Unsubsidized Loans and Federal PLUS Loans, in addition to alternative/private loans. Process includes: Student Entrance and Exit Counseling Interviews, verification of all documents and data submitted by students, recalculation of family contribution as necessary, loan application processing, monitoring continued eligibility, loan disbursement management, loan return calculations, loan certifications to lenders, and account reconciliation. 4. Works with independent auditors on the annual Title IV audit of the Direct Loan program as required by the U.S. Department of Education. Works with U.S. Department of Education Program Reviewers during Program Reviews and representatives of Audit Review Branch as needed. Maintains systemized financial aid records; prepares files for annual audit. 5. Packages and disburses financial aid, notifies students of awards, monitors continued eligibility and implements clear communication strategy concerning awards. Staff, fulltime, exempt June 2016

6. Tracks and monitors student data and supervises the staff who assist in data management. 7. Works with continuing students to present and explain the financial aid program and help students navigate through their financial aid needs. 8. Writes, reviews and revises consumer information for students, including managing and updating the financial aid portion of the Seminary’s website, student handbook, academic catalog and policies and procedures manual. 9. Provides insightful data analysis of trends and changes in student information in support of recruitment efforts. 10. Maintains contact with student borrowers delinquent in loan payments. Monitors School’s default rate. 11. Oversees the Seminary’s financial literacy program, which provides students with on-campus educational seminars and updated financial-management tools. 12. Work on other duties as assigned by supervisor. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years professional experience in a financial aid office; a solid working knowledge of various federal, state and institutional aid programs; strong analytical skills; very detail oriented; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and the ability to utilize software programs necessary to perform assigned functions are required. Personal commitment to Christ and service to others; self-starter and self-motivated with a desire to take initiative in a busy environment; innovative and flexible; loyalty to the Seminary President, administration, and colleagues is required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with CampusVue student information systems. Familiarity with graduate/professional school financial aid programs. Familiarity with the financial challenges unique to seminary students preparing for careers in ministry and related fields. Familiarity with statistical evaluation and interpretation of data. Supervisory experience. OUTCOMES: A highly organized financial aid program that utilizes data analysis to act responsively to students and their needs while meeting recruitment and annual retention goals. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office environment and involves extensive contact with other staff members. May require prolonged standing, sitting, and frequent bending, stooping or stretching. May require occasional lifting up to 20 pounds up to waist height. Requires eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity for computer-related duties, and the ability to distinguish letters or symbols. Requires the use of office equipment, such as a computer and keyboard, telephone, and copier/scanner. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
