Context

The Students’ Union is an independent body affiliated to the National Union of Students and exists to support students in both their academic and non-academic experiences; whilst working closely with the University and local community. Student leaders are elected by the student body, and supported by the staff’s expertise to deliver services and represent student needs; to enhance the experience of all students at the University of Lincoln.

Job Purpose

To work under the direction of the Employability and Campaigns Manager to deliver training, workshops, activities and support to students making them “work ready” through their engagement with the Students Union and throughout their student experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Key Responsibility 1 “Work Ready” Skills Work with the Employability and Campaigns Manager to identify a core group of “Work Ready” skills that are appropriate for voluntary roles across the Students’ Union and any associated behaviours attached to them. Co-ordinate the mapping of the “Work Ready” skills attached to each voluntary role within the Students’ Union and produce a centralised document, continuously adding and reviewing to the skills and opportunities the Students’ Union provides. Using the identified core group of “Work Ready” skills, map which ones would be developed through participating in a Students’ Union training courses/workshops.

Work with the Human Resources department and Employability and Campaigns Manager to record on a member’s Students’ Union Management System SUMS profile any training, and the work ready skills developed that is delivered as part of their employment at the Students’ Union. Work with the Employability and Campaigns Manager to create a “Work Ready” Award– this will need to be a comprehensive guide to help students understand which core “Work Ready” skills they can develop through participating in various Students’ Union voluntary and paid roles, and also the different behaviours that determine to what extent they are competent in those skills. Support the Employability and Campaigns Manager in developing and implementing the employability section of the Students’ Union Management System SUMS, including the creation and implantation of a Work Ready Report which members can download to review the skills gained through their engagement with the Students’ Union. Ensure that the Students’ Union Management System SUMS is up to date and accurate, including data entry and review processes to ensure the employability section is accessible to all members. Provide administration for members taking part in the Due of Edinburgh Award including using eDofE and provide guidance and advice to members completing the Award to help them find and complete all sections. Provide guidance and advice to members going through the Swans Den scheme to help them prepare good quality business plans, and be confident to pitch their ideas, as well as provide support and advice to members who have been successful in being awarded funding, in order to get their business up and running. Key Responsibility 2 Raising awareness of the “Work Ready” services and support available to students Be responsible for publicising and embedding work ready internally across the organisation and externally to students, including working with staff members to ensure their understanding. Devise ways of gaining feedback to ensure members feel that their involvement in the Students’ Union opportunities & activities has helped with their employability Provide a range of Work Ready opportunities for students to participate in and continue to develop this e.g. Swans’ Den, Duke of Edinburgh Award, training and workshops; work experience and Career Boosters. Work in partnership to deliver ‘Financial Fairytales’ to members, aiming to educated members on their finances and provide advice on budgets. Work in partnership with the University to identify relevant employability events/activities that are relevant to promote through the Students’ Union. Work with the marketing and communications department to ensure that information about employability activities/events is up to date and engaging on the website. Co-ordinate key events throughout the year such as Fresher’s Fairs, Employability Fayres, and Student Volunteer Week with the other staff members within the department. Key Responsibility 3 Training Create a range of training sessions to help members develop their employability skills, both to support them going through the Award and to make them Work Ready

Work with the Employability and Campaigns Manager in the development and delivery of the SU Helper recruitment and training. Be involved in delivering employability sessions/workshops such as the mock Assessment Centres as and when required. Co-ordinate the creation of a centralised training programme, including liaising with departments to collate all training being delivered to volunteers, ensuring that the skills learnt through their role are being promoted and recorded. Identify which Students’ Union staff and Officers are appropriate to deliver specific training/workshops and work with them to create a regular programme of training for students. Be responsible for encouraging members to take part in skills development and other “Work Ready” activities offered by the Students’ Union, University Careers or external organisations. Provide administrative support to the on-line training booking system following up on bookings to ensure attendance. Key Responsibility 4 General Duties Provide a written annual review of the employability service to ensure objectives are being met, and make recommendations for improvement. Work with the marketing department to gain regular and timely feedback from students about Work Ready, including its service and opportunities provided. Support the Employability and Campaigns Manager in the development of the department. Assist in ensuring Volunteers are supported when undertaking a volunteer opportunity as and when required. Actively seek new opportunities to develop member’s employability sills whilst at University. Contribute to the Employability developmental plans to ensure they are supporting the Students’ Union Strategic Plan. In addition, undertake such duties as may reasonably be requested and that are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.

Work in a manner that reflects the values of the organisation as shown in the Union’s constitution and strategic plan, and in line with Union policies and procedures. Promote a positive image of the University of Lincoln Students’ Union at all times. Keep abreast of relevant national and local developments and attend conferences, training events and meetings as necessary. Maintain confidentiality in respect of all areas of the job responsibilities and be aware of current policy relating to the Data Protection Act 1998. Engage in appropriate training programmes as identified by your line manager. Participate in the staff performance and development review scheme. Page 3 of 5

Actively follow and promote Union policies. Some attendance at meetings outside normal office hours may be required to meet the needs of students and a flexible approach to working is essential. Maintain confidentiality in respect of all areas of the job responsibilities, and be aware of current policy in relation to the Data Protection Act 1998 Develop strong relationships with members of the Union’s Senior Management Team, their team members and full and part time officers. To undertake such other additional duties as may be required from time to time within the overall scope of the appointment as directed by the Senior Management Team.
