BASIC MEDIATION WORKSHOP

Join Us & Get a Handle on Conflict! If you manage conflict in your work, are exploring mediation as a possible future vocation or want to learn about mediation as a resource for clients, this workshop in basic mediation techniques is for you. A mediator guides difficult discussions, encouraging people to find a satisfactory outcome. Mediation can help resolve disputes among co-workers, neighbors, business partners or business owners and clients. PARTICIPANTS IN THIS DYNAMIC THREE-AND-A-HALF-DAY WORKSHOP LEARN AND PRACTICE SKILLS IN: • Identifying and framing issues • Listening for interests SCHEDULE & TUITION Workshops are offered each fall & spring. Fall dates for 2018 are November 14–17.

• Controlling the process • Helping disputants solve problems • Finalizing agreements • Handling special problems in mediation

AFTER COMPLETING THE WORKSHOP, PARTICIPANTS WILL: • Have an enhanced understanding of their own conflict style, strengths and challenges • Have an entry-level understanding of the mediation process, including the “flow” of mediation, guidelines for the process and ethical considerations • Have an understanding of impartiality and how to maintain an impartial stance • Be able to use reflective listening, framing and questions as basic tools of conflict resolution • Be able to identify interests and issues in a dispute and use that identification to assist parties in working toward resolution • Have a fundamental understanding of how some of the tools and processes of mediation can be adapted to their own workplace
