Joseph Basic Truth: God made me. Bible Story Focus: I know God is always with me. Joseph • Genesis 37–45 Memory Verse: “I have come so that they may have life. I want them to have it in the fullest possible way. John 10:10 Key Question: When are you your best? Bottom Line: God is with you.

Introductory Activities (Small Groups, 15 minutes) Activities that encourage preschoolers to enter the classroom and begin engaging with peers and Small Group Leaders by providing age appropriate and hands on fun while introducing new concepts they will hear in the day’s Bible story.

Prepare to offer the following activities as Your 3-, 4-, or 5-year-olds arrive. 1. Stuck Together Made to Explore: An activity that channels a preschooler’s innate curiosity into a discussion of the week’s crucial concepts

What You Need: Magnet wand, medium-sized plastic bin, crinkle paper or shredded paper, and small metal objects like jumbo paper clips, keys, metal canning lids, etc. (Note: Make sure the small metal objects you choose to put in the bins are not choking hazards.) What You Do: Before the Activity: Fill the plastic bin with crinkle or shredded paper. Hide the small metal objects in the paper. During the Activity: Allow the children to take turns using the magnet wand to pull metal objects out of the bin of paper. Once all of the metal objects have been found, put them back in the bin and do it again. What You Say: Before the Activity: “This is a super fun tool called a magnet wand. (Hold up.) Can you say magnet wand? (Pause.) Good job! This wand is fun because it has a magnet on the end of it. (Point.) That means anything that is made of metal will stick to the end of it. That’s what magnets do. They stick to metal. I’m going to let you use this magnet wand to find metal things hiding in this paper. Let’s see how many we can find.” During the Activity: (Every time a child pulls a metal object out, say . . .) “Look! You did it! The magnet and the metal are stuck together. That is so cool. See if you can do it again.”

After the Activity: “That was so cool seeing things stick to the magnet. Magnets stick to metal just like God sticks with us. Wherever we go, He goes!” Transition: Move to Worship and Story by walking together. Say, “Let’s scoot on to the Bible story! Today we get to hear about a guy named Joseph. He moved around a lot, but God always stuck with him.” Gather children for a Large Group time.

Worship: Inviting People to Respond to God Engage kids’ hearts through dynamic and interactive worship in a Large Group setting.

What You Need: Paperclip “Memory Verse Card” in your Bible at 2 Samuel 22:31. You will also need a DVD player and the All Star Kids worship DVD. WORSHIP LEADER: “Good morning, friends! I’m so excited to see you this morning. And I’m even more excited because we get to spend the week talking about how God made you and that you’re your best when you do things His way. When I ask you this very important question, ‘When are you your best?’ I want you to say, [Bottom Line] ‘I’m my best when I do things God’s way.’ Let’s try it. When are you your best?” CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: [Bottom Line] “I’m my best when I do things God’s way.” WORSHIP LEADER: “Great job! You guys are awesome! Did you know that God made you? He did! God made you and me and the flowers and the trees. God made everything! (Lead children in singing two songs of your choice) “What incredible singers you are! God made everything. God made you, and you’re your best when you do things His way. When are you your best?” CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: [Bottom Line] “I’m my best when I do things God’s way.” WORSHIP LEADER: “That’s right! [Bottom Line] I’m my best when I do things God’s way. Our memory verse helps us remember that. The Bible says: I have come

so they may have life. I want them to have it in the fullest possible way. WORSHIP LEADER: “Great job, everyone! God’s way is perfect, and [Bottom Line] I’m my best when I do things God’s way. Yes, I am. It’s easy to go God’s way when we follow the plan that He has for us. Did you know God has a plan for you? He does! He has a plan for you and for me. Let’s sing about that.

(Lead children in singing two songs of your choice) “Great job, everyone! I love singing about God’s plan for us. When we follow God’s plan, we are the best us. When are you your best?” CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: [Bottom Line] “I’m my best when I do things God’s way.”

Story: Communicating God’s Truth in Engaging Ways Engage kids’ hearts through a dynamic and interactive Bible story and prayer experience in a Large Group setting.

Bible Story Videos are available in the AMPED preschool files. What You Do: PLAY BIBLE STORY – Joseph STORYTELLER: “Hey! That reminds me of a guy named Joseph who knew God’s way is the best way. You can read about him in the Bible. And as you know, if you read it in the Bible, then you know it’s true! “Joseph lived a long, long time ago. Raise your hand if you have a brother. (Pause.) Awesome, you can put your hands down. So did Joseph! In fact, he had lots of brothers. And out of all of his brothers, Joseph was his father’s favorite son. He even gave Joseph a special coat. “It was a coat kinda like this one with lots of colors on it. “The coat was SO cool, and Joseph’s father loved him SO much that Joseph’s brothers got jealous. They actually threw Joseph in a hole in the ground. “And then they sent him far away to some strangers! “Way, way, way uncool. Right? Then Joseph got put in JAIL, and he didn’t even do anything wrong! “Just think if you were Joseph. Raise your hand if you’d be mad. (Pause.) You get thrown into a hole. “Then you get sent away to live with and work for strangers. “Then you get put in jail for something you didn’t even do!

“But do you want to know something totally cool? Joseph didn’t let any of this stuff stop him from doing things God’s way. “Joseph loved God, and Joseph obeyed God. When his brothers were mean to him, Joseph forgave them. “When he was sent far away to work for strangers, Joseph worked hard and was a happy helper. “When he was put in jail for something he didn’t do, Joseph still worked hard and helped save a HUGE group of people from running out of food. “Joseph knew something important. Just like the safety gear for scooter riding, God is always with us. And just like Joseph, we can live like God is with us and do things God’s way, no matter what happens! Joseph knew that [Bottom Line] I’m my best when I do things God’s way. When are you your best?” CHILDREN and STORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] “I’m my best when I do thing’s God’s way.” STORYTELLER: “That’s right, my friends. Let’s pray and ask God to help us remember that. “Heavenly Father, thank You for the amazing story of Joseph. He faced some pretty crazy stuff, but he wasn’t alone. He knew that You were with him. Help us to remember that too and to do things Your way this week. We love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Application Activities (Small Groups, 25 minutes) Create a safe place to connect through activities that are written to reach every learning style while reinforcing the Bottom Line that was introduced during the Bible Story and applying it to real life experiences. In addition, these activities provide preschoolers with an opportunity to build relationships with their Small Group Leader.

Offer as the following activities as your time, facilities, resources, and leadership allow. You may want to lead one activity at a time. Or, offer two activities at once and allow half the kids to participate in each. Then switch groups and repeat the activities. 1.
