I write to thank you, Madam, for the pleasureof reeting with you once again at this very ominous period of internationaltension, partioularlyas it ranifests itself in the Middle East. I have always valued youradviceand appreciatedthe chances .affaaledneto discuss with you, in total confidenceand friendship, all mattersof mutual interest. It is in this spirit that I enclose the attachedtwo letters for your confidentialattention,as they may help completethe current pictureof relationswith our mutrial friends in Washington. I also wish to affirm that it is our intentiOn_torecall the JordanianParliamentto an extraordinarysessionto ammend the constitution,as early as January 1984. The ammendrentswould then ensure the continuationof the constitutionalparliamentarydemocratic life in the HasherdteKingdom of Jordan. I shall appraiseyou, Madam Prime Minister,of all developmentsin that regard. The Middle East, and indeed our world, is most unpredictable. I have justbarned with incredulitythat the new close relations betweenHis Majesty King Hassan II of Mbrocco and Colonel Ghadaffiof Libya, have resulted in theMbroccans, arranginga visit to Libya of PiesidentGemavel. I obviously can not rake any sense of this event, especiallyagainst the baCkgroundwhich we discussedearlier on today and particularlythe affiliationsof the Presidentof Lehanon and his feelings,as conveyed to You. I hope he leaves Libya safely. With ry highest esteem and warmest personalwishes for a Merry Christmasand a happy, successfulNew Year.
