Shalom! I hope you are familiar with this DR. WADE Hebrew SMITH word. It is often translated as peace, but means much more than the English word can convey. Shalom speaks to wellness or wholeness in all of life and relationships. It speaks to being in right relationship with God, with self and with others. It means in relationship with self that our heart, mind and body are in harmony. When there is dis-ease in any of these relationships, Shalom suffers. We work toward Shalom as we identify the areas of our life or relationships that are suffering. If we lack Shalom with God, we reflect on the spiritual issues of faith, forgiveness, obedience and the promise that nothing can separate us from the love of God. If we lack Shalom with others, we focus on the cause of the tension or brokenness and pursue understanding, grace, forgiveness and the possibility of reconciliation. If we lack Shalom with self, we work toward healing in the area of our life that is suffering. For example, if our body suffers with disease we must realize that our heart and mind are vital participants in our healing. So, in addition to working with medical personnel we work to make sure the attitudes and conditions of our heart and mind are in a healthy place. I believe that God desires us to be whole and well in all of life’s relationship. I am learning how intricately all of these relationships are connected as we seek Shalom. Therefore, let us pray for and nurture Shalom in one another. And, let each of us pursue Shalom in relationship with God, with self and with each other. June was a wonderful month of ministry for our church. Falls Creek, F.I.S.H camps, gymnastics camps, chefs camps, Mission Trip to Peru, Summer Suppers for Women and Pops in the Park were just a few of the exciting things we experienced. July offers many opportunities for ministry as well with Mountain Camp, Summer Suppers For Women, Night at the Ballgame and VBS coming quickly. I invite you to find your place to be involved and to serve. We still need VBS volunteers, so please contact Suzette, [email protected], about your opportunity to minister and serve our children. Summer Passages is our summer worship theme as we consider some of our favorite scripture passages over these next weeks. We will share baptism and the Lord’s Supper together on July 22. Roy Joe Ham will be our pulpit guest on July 8 and Dr. Patrick Mead, Chaplain at Arkansas Department of Community Corrections, will join us on July 29. July offers significant opportunities for worship, fellowship and ministry. I look forward to sharing in them with you. Dr. Wade Smith

Children's wing upgrade continues

Thank you for all of the many kind words and encouragement, ROY JOE Lydia and I are HAM extremely grateful for the notes cards and gifts of appreciation. We will continue to reflect on the many ways you have come alongside to support and encourage our work here. As I have said so many times, it takes a team to move through the challenges we have faced over the last 10 years. Each one who has been a part of that, we always appreciate your hard work and dedication. As with all areas of ministry we must look back at how God has blessed and moved us forward. And, in that, be challenged by looking ahead at God’s call for the future for all the ministry and support work that is needed. I look forward to being a part of that call from God and I hope you will continue to join us in that journey. The children’s wing work is continuing with new paint, wood plank walls, vinyl scriptures and pictures, and so much more. Thank you to all who have been a part of the work and moving to make the west wing top floors more inviting to our families and children. If you have not toured the area lately, please take the time to do so. If you have some time to come paint we also invite you to do that as well. We want to get all of the painting completed prior to the new carpet installation. So much work is still needed to be ready to welcome our families to the new space by the fall. Some must be completed by the time of VBS! Hurricane Harvey continues to impact many of our members who have been involved in work along the Texas Coast. Recent flooding have challenged many who still have not had their homes restored and continue to lose items that had been salvaged following the storm. I have heard that in the area around Refugio there still are more than 700 homes that need work done. We plan our next recovery trip the week of Nov. 4. If you would like to know more about the work or the needs in the area, please let me know and I will add you to all of the correspondence concerning the plans going forward. I look forward to what God calls us to next! I pray that you see Him working all around and you too are excited. Let us be found faithful to follow His direction and call to be a solid working part of this Family of Faith known as FBC Norman.
