In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” WCONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Grosser Gott, Wir Loben Dich

We consider it a privilege to have our children in worship with us. If your small children become restless and vocal, we invite you to the children’s room especially designed for them at the rear of the Sanctuary. They are also welcome in the nursery. Older children should also be encouraged to come to church prepared to stay in their pew throughout the service.

One of our pastors will be available after the service to pray for you or to offer helpful direction regarding your spiritual life. He will be in the Gathering Room, which is the first room on your left as you exit the southwest door of the Sanctuary (closest to the pulpit). You may also send your confidential email to [email protected] with questions about your spiritual life.

Weekly Focus on Mission Partners

World Missions: Emails come to our missions office daily from our missionary families with one common request: their children. Whether they are asking for prayer for the spiritual, emotional or physical health of their children, wisdom as they parent, or the salvation of a child, missionaries face the same parenting challenges we do here in America. Tim and Evie have been Second Presbyterian missionaries for a little more than two years. Along with prayer requests concerning Tim’s new position as the pastor of the second largest international fellowship in China, and Evie’s new job teaching elementary music and strings at an international school, they ask that we pray for their two college age children: Martyn, who leaves in August to study at the University of Hawaii, and Allison, who returns to Stetson University in Florida. Continue to pray for all our missionary children, asking God for His continued blessings in their lives.

MissionUSA: Streets Ministries’ students and staff members will be spread far and wide this summer as they take elementary, middle and high school kids to camps in Tennessee, Florida and Michigan. Please be in prayer for travel safety as well as for the time spent with the students. Pray that students will have open hearts to hear and respond to the Gospel. Please also be in prayer for the residents of the Foote and Cleaborn communities as the month brings extreme heat to their homes. Pray for peace and relief for our neighbors physically, emotionally and spiritually.

July Flowers

The flowers in the Sanctuary for the month of July are given to the glory of God and in loving memory of: Skip Dickinson by Scott and Holly Knowlton; James Edward Echols by his wife, Evelyn, and his sons Turner, Ken, Jim and their families; William Quintard Glass by Haskins, Dotsie and John Glass; Wenonah Hascher by Bill and Barbara Johns and her family; Dr. and Mrs. John McIntosh and their sons Bill and John, Jr. by their family.

Receiving love and giving love is probably one of the greatest needs and concerns of all human beings. We certainly all want to feel loved and most of us have people in our lives whom we love. But do we really know how to love? Is love a feeling or a commitment? And what about unconditional love? Is that even possible? This Sunday night we will be looking at the great “love chapter” of the Bible, I Corinthians 13. Join us tonight as we see what God’s Word has to tell us about giving and receiving love.

Nursery is available by reservation only. Activities are planned for children age 4-sixth grade.

Worship Schedule to Change August 16

Save the dates!

For several months the Session has considered how to solve two problems concerning our Sunday morning worship schedule: 1) the lack of adequate time for our Congregational Communities and 2) the lack of adequate transitional time between worship services and Congregational Communities. In order to ensure a full 50-55 minutes for our Congregational Communities and to allow for transitional time between meetings, we will move to the following Sunday morning schedule, effective August 16, 2009: 8:15-9:30 a.m. Early Worship Service; 9:45-10:40 a.m. Congregational Communities; 11:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Late Worship Service. Our prayer is that our Sundays together will continue to be the best day of the week!
