THE WEEKLY CONNECTION ONE IN JESUS…REACHING MANY! Week of July 7, 2019

WORSHIP CELEBRATION Diaspeiro means to scatter, to displace, to sow throughout, to distribute beyond. It’s a word that surfaces through what would seem to be the most difficult of circumstances, at a time when the early church was just beginning to be established. Yet through it, God’s unsuspecting “scattered ones” would leave their comfort zone to further His mission to reach more and more people with the eternal love of Jesus! Bring your Bible and join our St. John family throughout the weeks of summer for an interactive worship series journey through the adventurous pages of the book of Acts. You will encounter Jesus through His Word while discovering your part in the Diaspeiro that continues even today! WELCOME TO LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL NORTHWEST! As construction is in full motion as the first step in our Campus Master Site Plan, we are so excited for the opportunity for our church & school family to come together to worship as ONE in Jesus at LHNW. Our regular weekend schedule of five services is now reduced to two worship celebrations on Sundays during the summer: 8:30 AM Traditional Praise & 10:30 AM Modern Praise (no Saturday worship during this time). Communion will be offered at each service every Sunday. Nursery will be available in the Learning Lounge during the 10:30 AM worship. Adult Bible Class will be held at 9:30 AM in the Music Room, and there will be fellowship time with refreshments in the Cafeteria throughout the morning. Sermon message videos during this time will be posted to Facebook in addition to the regular uploads to our website each week. If you have any questions while here in our new worship location, an elder, usher or greeter will be happy to assist you. WORSHIP ATTENDANCE UPDATE “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together…but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”—Hebrews 10:24-25 All articles submitted to The Weekly Connection will be subject to approval and editing by the staff. Articles may be sent via email to [email protected] and must be received no later than Wednesday at noon the week of publication.

Attendance for the weekend of June 30………………………………596

BIBLICAL DISCOVERY SUNDAY ADULT BIBLE CLASS will be held in the Lutheran Northwest Music Room, just past the cafeteria, at 9:30 AM TODAY and every Sunday throughout the summer. Join our pastors as we encounter more of the Book of Acts to complement the DIASPEIRO sermon message series. Please follow the signs, or ask an usher if you need assistance finding the location.

SHARED LIFE GRAB A CUP OF COFFEE AND INVITE A NEW FRIEND. Following our Sunday morning services this summer, coffee and refreshments are served in the Lutheran Northwest Cafeteria. What a wonderful opportunity it is to get to know someone in worship with us. What a great way to be the church by encouraging each other in Jesus’ name! GRIEFSHARE will begin another session this fall on Saturday, October 12, so please watch for more details as that date gets closer. If you have need of support before then, feel free to contact one of our GriefShare leaders: Linda Baroli 248-895-0310, Joanne Curran 248-623-7309, or Marlene Leinberger 586781-5434. LIVERNOIS ROAD CLOSURE – As this may affect your route to Lutheran High Northwest, please be aware that the southbound lanes of Livernois Road, from Walton Road to Avon Road, are now closed due to construction on Livernois Road. Northbound lanes will remain open. This is expected to be completed in late November. We encourage anyone affected to use an alternative southbound route (Rochester Rd., Crooks Rd., etc.) to travel to LHNW for our summer worship together. GOD’S BLESSINGS, MIKE! – As announced a few weeks ago in worship, our Director of Operations Mike Wilusz has received a unique opportunity to go and work for the well-known Detroit non-profit, Gleaners Food Bank. While this was a very difficult decision for Mike, given the timing and Mike’s continued love for all the Lord is doing at St. John, he has nonetheless prayerfully accepted this new position. We give thanks for the amazing blessing Mike has been over the last five years through his important role as Director of Operations. Please keep Mike in your prayers as he begins his new position this week, and join in wishing him God’s blessings on all his endeavors. Please pray also for our Ministry Leadership Team as they now work through a transition plan, and for God’s leading as they prepare to fill this position for the future.

SACRIFICIAL GENEROSITY GROUP MISSION TRIP SUPPLY COLLECTION: This coming week, we will continue to collect painting supplies to help our students with the cost of the mission trip to Knoxville, TN this summer. If you would be willing to donate, we are collecting paintbrushes, paint rollers, paint roller covers, painter’s tape, and plastic drop cloths. You can drop these off on Sundays at LHNW in the bins or bring them by St. John during office hours (9:00 AM – 1:00 PM) this week. We are collecting through next Sunday, July 14. DID YOU KNOW that we have a St. John Love for Others Fund to assist people inside our church home and outside in our community who are in immediate need of emergency help? Last year, over $14,000 was distributed to assist with food, gas, hospital visits, medical expenses and more. The Love for Others Fund has helped those who have lost income and are in need of a one-time mortgage or rent payment, or funds to avoid utility shut-offs, and the list goes on. Having this fund available offers us the opportunity to pray with people, talk about their individual needs, and share God’s love while helping with the necessary tangible care that can ease their worry. Please consider making a donation to the Love for Others Fund. This fund is completely separate from our Annual Ministry Budget. Donations are tax deductible and checks can be made out to: St. John Love for Others Fund, or to St. John, with Love for Others in the memo line. The blue envelopes included with your bimonthly offering packets may be used for these donations. Thank you!

CAMPUS RENOVATION AND EXPANSION UPDATE It's really happening! After over three years of ongoing prayer, extensive planning, some unforeseen delays, and continued sacrificial generosity in response to the blessings of God, the long-awaited first wave of construction work on our Campus Master Site Plan is underway!

This initial $1.5 million in campus site work will last throughout the summer and will include:       

A significant increase in parking capacity and improved flow. Creation of a new children's playground area. Demolition of the former St. John Foundation house on Helen Street. Addition of new sanctuary outdoor plaza and updated campus landscaping. Temporary installation of a portable double-classroom to accommodate increasing school enrollment. Classroom/gymnasium technology upgrades. Relocation of underground utilities and redesigned water detention making way for future renovation work and new construction/expansion as part of the Campus Master Site Plan.

COMPASSIONATE SERVICE OPPORTUNITY TO HOST OUR HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH! Have you ever dreamt of having 20-ish high schoolers at your house for a salad bar? Main entrée? Dessert? Now is your chance! Our annual High School Youth House Hop is scheduled for Sunday evening, August 11 and we are in need of host homes! This is an incredible serve opportunity! If you are interested, please email Melissa Hammett at [email protected]. MISSION AND MINISTRY SERVE OPPORTUNITIES! It has been such a blessing to see the word of God in action through ongoing serve opportunities! We are living out Proverbs 19:17 (ESV), “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his deeds”. Action teams continue to go out and serve our community and congregation by helping with home repairs and yard clean up. Most recently we thank the Lord for volunteers who did tree trimming, yard clean up, dryer repair and door lock installation. Can you imagine being part of a community that gives peace of mind and God’s love by serving with grateful hearts? If your heart is interested in being a part of our serve community, please contact St. John Mission & Ministry Coordinator Jennie Eller, [email protected] for more information.

RELATIONAL WITNESS THE POWER OF THE SHARE BUTTON! Have you ever been in worship and wished someone you know could have heard the message from God’s Word that day? If so, did you know it’s actually really easy to share weekend sermon messages with others via email, Facebook, Twitter, etc.? Simply visit our St. John webpage at www.stjohnrochester.org, and click on the MESSAGE icon to go to our video and audio sermon message archive. Select the sermon message you want to send out and simply click the share button, select how you want to share, type a personal message of introduction and send it! It’s pretty much that simple! Imagine how the Lord might use that simple step of relational witness!
