June 11, 2017 Basic Truth: God made me. Key Question: Who can do what God wants you to do? Bottom Line: I can do what God wants me to do. Memory Verse: “God made us to do good works.” Ephesians 2:10, NCV Bible Focus: I can listen to God. Samuel • 1 Samuel 3:1-10, 19

Make It Fun (9:00, 10:15, 11:30) Let one teacher lead children in activities throughout the room while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door. At this age not all children will participate, but most will want to be part of the fun. Match It “Match It” is an activity that teaches problem solving skills and concentration while reinforcing this month’s theme. What You Need: “Match” Activity Cards (total of 8) What You Do: During the Activity: Lay each card facing up on the floor or table. Ask the children to find two cards that match. Once a match is made, lay it aside. Repeat several times. What You Say: Before the Activity: “There are pictures of instruments on the table. (Point.) I see two pictures of each instrument.” During the Activity: “Let’s work together and see if we can find two cards that look exactly alike. (Point to a picture.) Can you find the other card that looks just like this one? (Pause.) Nice job! Let’s try another one!” (Finish activity.) After the Activity: “You rock! Today we are going to hear a Bible Truth about a kid that rocked too. He was a very good listener. I cannot wait to find out what he heard!”

Playground (9:10, 10:25, 11:40) If the weather allows, use this time to travel outside for 10 minutes of playtime. Place your “We are on the Playground” sign on the door as you leave. This will allow parents who are late to find you.

Make It Stick (9:45, 11:00, 12:25) The following activities help make the Bottom Line stick. Encourage children to play on their own if they do not wish to take part in an activity. 1. Act It Out “Act It Out” is an activity that gives the children a key role in today’s Bible Truth as you retell it. What You Need: No supplies needed What You Do: Before the Activity: Encourage the children to stand around you on the floor. During the Activity: Retell the Bible Truth. Every time you say that Samuel went to bed, have the children sit down. When you tell the part about when he gets up, have the children stand up and stretch. After the Activity: Finish telling the Bible Truth. What You Say: Before the Activity: “We heard a fantastic Bible Truth today! Let’s hear it again, but this time we can act it out. You all can pretend to be Samuel. When I say that Samuel went to bed, sit down on the floor and close your eyes like you’re sleeping. When we get to the part about Samuel getting up and going to see Eli, everyone get up and stretch. Are you ready?” During the Activity: “Samuel was a boy who served a priest named Eli. Samuel went to bed, and he was drifting off to sleep. Everyone sit down and close your eyes. (Pause.) Samuel heard someone calling his name. He jumped up and went to Eli. Okay, everyone stand up and stretch. (Pause.) He thought Eli was calling for him. Eli told him that he was not calling him and that Samuel needed to go back to bed. Samuel went back to bed. Everyone sit back down and close your eyes! (Pause.) Samuel heard his name again. He went back to Eli. Okay, you all wake up now! (Pause.) Good job. He thought Eli was calling him again. Eli told him that it was not him. Samuel went to bed again. Go back to bed. (Pause.) Do you remember what happened next? (Pause.) YES! 4

Samuel heard his name AGAIN! He went back to Eli and Eli told him it was not him calling him. Okay, I want you to get up again. (Pause.) Eli told Samuel that it was God calling him. He told Samuel to say to God, ‘Speak, Lord. I am listening.’ Samuel went back to bed and he heard his name again. Go back to bed! (Pause.) He did what Eli said. He knew it was God calling and he said, ‘Speak, Lord. I am listening.’ God told Samuel all of his plans for him. Samuel listened to God.” After the Activity: “You did a great job listening to directions during the Bible Truth. You rock, because God made you to listen to Him. We can listen to God just like Samuel listened to God. Who can do what God wants you to do? [Bottom Line] I can do what God wants me to do!” 2. Bubbles “Bubbles” is an activity that uses fine motor skills and concentration while teaching this month’s memory verse. What You Need: Bubble solution and a bubble wand What You Do: Before the Activity: Have the children stand in front of you, and say the memory verse with them. During the Activity: Blow bubbles to the children and invite them to pop them. Say the memory verse several times while the children are popping the bubbles. After the Activity: Repeat several times. What You Say: Before the Activity: “Let’s say our memory verse together. God made us to do good works, Ephesians 2:10.” During the Activity: “You rock! Look, I have BUBBLES! (Hold up bubbles.) Let’s try to pop all of the bubbles! (Blow bubbles.) Use your finger to pop the bubbles. (Pause.) Great job! Can you help me say our memory verse again? God made us to do good works, Ephesians 2:10. Wahoo! Nice job!” After the Activity: “You rock! I love our Bible verse. It tells us that we can do what God wants us to do. Who can do what God wants you to do? [Bottom Line] I can do what God wants me to do!”
