Hilliard Farm Market Reopened

T

he ninth year for the Hilliard Farm Market has begun at the corner of Main and Scioto-Darby Road in the Hilliard United Methodist Church parking lot at 5445 Scioto-Darby Road every Tuesday. This project started as a project of Leadership Hilliard which was developed by the Hilliard Chamber. This was a program committed to its mission to enhance the Hilliard community by developing and cultivating current and potential leaders. The purpose of the Hilliard Farm Market is to offer the community the opportunity to purchase locally grown produce directly from farmers. The market will enhance the economic viability of our local farmers while providing a variety of fresh and nutritional food choices. The market also helps further the development of the Hilliard community by providing an activity which fosters social gathering and interaction. 2

TEDxHilliard

I

n the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TEDlike experience. This event is called TEDxHilliard, where x = independently organized TED event. At the TEDxHilliard event, live speakers, musicians and artists will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including this one, are selforganized. This year’s theme is Pathways. The human experience is a journey. A journey filled with pathways – some straight and predictable, others curvy and challenging. Some pathways lead us to new experiences, while others help us achieve something more.

2018 Smart 50 Awards

T

he Smart 50 Awards, presented by Hylant, recognize the top executives of the smartest 50 companies in the region for their ability to effectively build and lead savvy organizations. Smart 50 winners will be recognized at a special celebration on June 14, 2018, at The Exchange at Bridge Park, where they will be honored for their innovation, impact and ability to create business continuity.

If we pay attention, the experiences, challenges or questions that arise for each of us have the potential to change the trajectory of our work and life. To change or guide our pathways, TEDxHilliard 2018 will highlight the experiences, challenges, questions, and pathways that lead to innovation, new products, better community relations, or a deeper understanding of the human condition. New Member Breakfast

W

e had a great turnout for our New Member Breakfast in May at Coffee Connections. Everyone enjoyed the scones from Cori’s Confections, connecting with each other as well as learning about all the benefits of membership and our benefit partners. We welcome you all and appreciate your commitment to our business community.

Important Notice from Hilliard Schools You may have heard that the tour company the Hilliard Schools has used for many years to take students to Washington D.C. filed for bankruptcy recently. Sadly, this was just after our families made their payments for the October 2018 school year. The good news is Hilliard Schools has secured a new tour company and the trip will go on! This is an authentic learning opportunity for our 8th grade students. While we know many families are working through their credit card and banking institutions to be reimbursed, we know some won’t be able to get their money back. We also know that close to 25% of our students are in the free and reduced lunch program and unable to afford this trip. We are partnering with the Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce and the Hilliard Education Foundation to ask our community business partners to help sponsor scholarships for our students in need. The trip cost is $390 per student. If you are willing to help, you can make a donation through the Hilliard Education Foundation’s web page, www.hilliardeducationfoundation.org The donations are tax deductible and will send more students on this trip of a lifetime. If you have questions please email Stacie Raterman at [email protected] 5
