Our Journey Together

It began fourteen years ago as I met with the Staff Parrish Commiee in the choir room in what is now the North Campus. From that very first Worship Schedule moment, I knew that I was blessed to be appointed to Greensboro. JOY Club News Susan, Jonathan, and I (there was no Mahew at that 'me) were IMPACT Youth Ministry welcomed with open arms and a willing spirit. When Mahew came along, the congrega'on was thrilled to have the first baby born to the Garage Sale pastor's family while serving here in as long as anyone could Music Ministry remember. My family has grown while I have been with you, and so Seekers have I. Children's Ministry As the church has grown, I have grown with you. I have told so many that I have served, at least, four different churches since I have Make an Investment come to Greensboro. The dynamics have changed as we have added Imagine No Malaria numbers to the congrega'on, as we have added staff, and as we have Christian Education added facili'es. Each one of these transi'ons has caused us to grow June Food Bank together and stretch ourselves to meet the challenges these changes Welcome to Our New Pastor have caused. I thank you for your willingness to invest of yourself in the church and in my ministry. Book Report As I look back across the years, so many incredible memories Annual Conference come to mind. Most of those memories are filled with great joy and are remembered with complete fondness. Professions of faith, affirma'ons Become a fan of of faith, weddings, bap'sms, Bible studies, wonderful fellowship, and FUMC Greensboro incredible steps of faith, have all been a part of this wonderful journey of ours. We have had so many opportuni'es to laugh and celebrate on Facebook! with each other. Love Offering

We have also had the opportunity to cry with one another. We have experienced the pain and suffering of September 11th, 2001. We have watched as brave men and women went off to war and seen many die to protect our freedoms. We have held each other's hand, hugged each other, and cried as we have seen so many of our "saints" leave us to go to their heavenly home. With heavy hearts, we have praised God together as we have been able to celebrate their lives well lived. We have rallied around each other as the struggles of life have come to our families and the ones we love. You have proved over and over what it means to be the church in the midst of the inevitable difficul'es of life. Time and 'me again, you have been a source of inspira'on to me with your grace, mercy, and love that has been demonstrated over and over throughout our journey together. I am convinced that I am the luckiest pastor in the North Georgia Conference to have served truly one of the best appointments for so long. It truly has been a labor of love made possible by all of you who have chosen to serve God through this church and its ministry. I have been blessed beyond measure to serve, work, and worship alongside you. As we come to this part of the journey, I would like to ask a favor of you. I want you to welcome your new pastor and his wife, Joe and Julie Watson, with the same enthusiasm and grace you welcomed me and my family. Please give them every opportunity to lead this congrega'on with boldness into the future. Your best days are ahead not behind. One of the best gi8s you could give me before I leave is to take care of some of the business of the church so that Joe won't have to. Please make sure that your appor'onments are paid 100% through June and make sure that the July 31st mortgage payment is raised so that he does not have to worry about these two things. He will have plenty of 'me to worry about these things in the future, but for now, please give him the opportunity to focus on building rela'onships and working with you to define the journey ahead for the church. Finally, I want to say that our journey does not end here. We all travel together in the journey of faith. It does not maer whether we are in the same church or far removed from each other, the faith journey con'nues for all who believe. The rela'onship just changes. Rev. Joe Watson will be your pastor in this journey, but I will always be your friend. Thank you for allowing me to tag along. I love you and God bless you. Richard

Music Ministry Notes Summer approaches and brings with it mixed emo'ons. We are looking forward to a break from our responsibili'es at our school, but we are saddened by the knowledge that the Chewning Family is leaving our music program. Jonathan brought to our music program both saxophone and singing skills. Mahew has developed this last year into a confident trumpet player. Both of these young men have talents that will blossom in the coming years, and we look forward to hearing about their future performances. Susan, who has more talent than she wants anyone to know, was a joy to sing with on Sunday a8ernoons when the Praise Group rehearsed. And of course, Richard, who has a good strong voice, was always heard at North Campus singing above the congrega'on. His wisdom and counsel will be sorely missed. These are a few of the opportuni'es to get involved in the Music Program at FUMC: Wednesday Night Rehearsals for Spirit Singers, Chancel Choir, and Bell Choir: June 1, 8, 15, 22 Handbell Choir plays at North Campus: Sunday June 26, 11:00
