TED’s guide to what the Junior Merchandiser does around here

Main Responsibilities  Reporting into the Merchandiser/Senior Merchandiser.  Plan a number of different key cash categories, working within parameters set within top-line initial planning, focusing on all KPI’s to deliver profit expectations alongside a Buyer.  In season trading to ensure that all categories are performing at optimum levels, re-forecasting sales using WSSI’s, constantly monitoring intake, OTB position, & terminal stocks across the department. Making Senior Merchandising members and B&M Director aware of any upside or risk to sales.  Identifying commercial repeats in season.  Working closely with the Buying on all trading aspects.  Driving lessons learnt, Season Analysis and strategy meetings prior to pre-season planning.  Formulation and compilation of Period review reports for use in Board pack.  Presenting at weekly Monday trading and best sellers meetings.  Management of team and coaching. Completion of team reviews twice yearly.  Liaising with VM and Retail teams to ensure B&M strategy is translated into stores.  Ownership of designated store groups, optimizing performance and liaising with Senior Retail.

Planning Planning areas at topline across sales, options, MD, terminal and recodes which will be signed off by Senior Merchandising level.

Product sign off Agreeing a balanced range with the buying team, and ensuring all stores in each grading have a strong offer.

Quantities Managing the spend effectively, planning quantities, width vs depth of buy, ranging and planned FP sell through.

Re-forecasting and OTB Management Every 4 weeks, agreeing Top line numbers with Merchandising Managers which the team will work to, re-forecasting categories, managing any risk, and potentialising over-performing areas of the business.

Team Development It is essential to motivate and develop the team, reviewing and taking action when needed.

Daily Liaisons -

Wholesale Work with wholesale to help meet company objectives, negotiating stock transfers during peak trading times.

Production Oversee the critical paths, and checking all orders are being fulfilled as quickly as possible, and any lateness is penalised within reason.

Stores Visit stores as much possible to understand the customer, product, VM stories. Improve relationships with key retail people. Action any feedback and help to profile stores when planning grading at the beginning of the season.

VM Working with the HO VM team to ensure all key messages are relayed in the correct way in store, working in conjunction with the buying team.
