How can I make sure every Sunday is a WIN?
Ensure that all classrooms in your coaching area are prepared with all supplies needed for the day, all placed volunteers have been trained and approved, and that all children in your area are receiving the assigned curriculum.

The Schedule
The current scheduling for this ministry team is an hour and a half at one of our 3 Sunday morning services every week. Each coach is required to check-in with the volunteer coordinator at least 15 minutes prior to the hour in which they are serving, to ensure that you will have plenty of time to check all classrooms and volunteers. If you are volunteering at 9:00 AM and 10:20 AM services then you will need to stay until the next coach shows up for the next service.
What do I do if I can’t be there?
Since we have a volunteer team of over 300 people we need you to find another volunteer to serve in your place. We need every volunteer that we have scheduled; therefore you cannot just not show up if you are unable to fulfill your volunteer responsibility. If you must miss a Sunday morning, you must contact another coach to have them cover your service hour and assignment for a given Sunday. If something comes up as a last minute the morning you are serving and there is not time to get a sub, please contact Jenny Jones at 281-7435223. Things to remember: • Contact coaches that are not on your hour. For example, if you serve at 9:00 AM do not contact other 9:00 AM coaches (they are already scheduled to serve the same time as you), contact 10:20 or 11:40. • If someone fills in for you be sure to return the favor! Offer to serve on one of their hours, even if they are not going to be out of town, give them a Sunday off. It is the right thing to do, and they will want to sub for you again one day!
The Procedure
Be an expert in the playbooks for all ministries under your coaching assignment. Be available for whatever is needed in your classrooms throughout the hour that your are serving. Ensure that all volunteers are present and engaged with the children, fulfilling the assigned curriculum, staying on schedule, and following all appropriate classroom procedures.
How do I find the lessons? (more details on pgs. 4-5)
It is imperative that you look over the lessons in your assigned age group before arriving on Sundays. You will be responsible for making sure that your team is completing the classroom activities, so you need to be familiar with what to do before you arrive. You should be able to let anyone who asks you what the bottom line lesson is in your area on any given Sunday. This Playbook is a resource for all volunteers at the Westpark campus of Parkway Fellowship. It is meant to be a step by step instruction manual for the leaders in the Kid's Ministry. How can I make sure every Sunday is a WIN?

How does this “reach the lost at any cost and grow them to maturity?”
(Our Mission Statement) Through this position you will be instrumental in laying the spiritual foundation for all of the children in your assigned age level through equipping volunteer leaders to be the best they can possibly be. You will not only be ministering to the child but the parent as well by creating an environment in which parents feel comfortable leaving their child. This will result in parents being able to focus on what God is teaching them, or even becoming a Christ follower, without worrying about the care of their child.

Fellowship: Create a community of support through volunteer appreciation, training, and equipping that cultivates a culture longevity of service.

What is the Kid’s Ministry Volunteer blog?
The Kid’s Ministry Volunteer blog is the single most important venue of communication to you as a volunteer. This is the place where you will find helpful training posts, schedules, directories, lessons, playbooks, and anything else you need to know to be a successful volunteer in the Kid’s Ministry. This is the single most important resource that you will have to best support the members of your team.

Everything You Need to Know for a Sunday (Start to Finish)
Coaches Set – Up and Check In: Coaches are required to arrive 15 minutes prior to beginning of the service time. Your coach’s clipboard with all curriculum for your team will be in the designated box located in the preschool check-in hallway. Upon your arrival you will need to pick up your clipboard and begin checking classrooms for volunteer teams. Please be mindful of these things: • Ensure all rooms are clean and reset for a new class of children. •
Make sure that all handouts, craft supplies, and any other needs are prepared before the kids arrive.
•
Make sure all volunteers are checked-in and wearing designated volunteer shirts.
•
Always greet with a smile and ask your volunteers if they need anything to be successful.
•
Ensure that all classrooms are within the designated ratio, closing and opening classrooms as needed.
•
Continually walk from class to class to ensure curriculum and activities are in progress and being available for whatever is needed.
Additional Expectations throughout the week: • Follow up with absent volunteers on a weekly basis – Call all volunteers that did not fulfill their Sunday commitment to discuss the reasons for their absence. •
Call all new training volunteers to discuss their first serving experience.

Communicate weekly with the volunteers in your area via telephone call or e-mail via ChurchTeams. See the Church Teams Playbook for specific instructions on how to contact your team.

Take some time each week to email an encouraging note to the volunteers on the rotation.

Essential Beliefs that We Teach our Kids
We believe that every child at The Park deserves to be taught Biblically sound teaching. Therefore, we require ALL kid’s ministry team members to be familiar with our essential beliefs. About God God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and are one God. Genesis 1:1,26,27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14 About Jesus Christ Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is coequal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. About Human Beings We are all made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. We are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, we are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin.” This attitude separates people from God. Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1, 2 About Salvation Salvation is a gift from God to mankind. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment we receive Jesus Christ into our life by faith. What is the Orientation & Training Process in the Kid’s Ministry? •

Assimilation o Turn in your background check information at class 101, to a Kid’s Ministry staff member or submit online at www.kidsatthepark.com. o Then you will be contacted by our Volunteer Coordinator. Connection o You will be asked to complete a survey for us to get to know you better and best place you on a volunteer team. o You will then be placed on a rotation team (A, B, C, or D) and assigned to one of our three services. o You will then be given the date of your first date serving. Orientation o Subscribe to the Volunteer Blog (www.parkwayfellowship.com/kids/volunteers). o Read your team’s assigned playbook in full. o You will then be given the date of the next Kid’s Ministry Volunteer Training. (Attendance is required) However, with staff approval and/or appropriate training, you may begin serving immediately. Continued Training o 2 times a year all lead teachers will receive “On the Job” training and evaluation by a Kid’s Ministry staff member. o You are asked to participate in additional leadership trainings once a year.
General Safety Reminders •
Never be alone with a child. This is not only for the protection of the child but for your protection as well.

For safety purposes we do not permit people to wander around the children’s wing unattended. Because of the mobility of our campus we depend upon you to assist us in making The Park a safe environment for all our children. If you notice any suspicious activity, contact a Kid’s Ministry Staff member immediately.
Social Media Guidelines
In order to make sure that all children and families are in a safe environment in the physical rooms of Parkway Fellowship, as well as online, all volunteers must follow the following guidelines when using social media as it pertains to events happening at Parkway Fellowship: • Never post a picture or video of a child or group of children to personal social media accounts. We LOVE to have updated pictures and videos of our kids learning and growing but unfortunately, we can’t be in every room to see what is happening all the time. If you take a picture of a child or group of children and would like to see it posted to social media, please e-mail it to Kids’ Ministry Staff member. We are able to track whether or not children have a photo release on file and then post it through the official Parkway Fellowship Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/parkwayfellowship), Twitter page (http://www.twitter.com/TheParkChurch | @TheParkChurch), or the Kids’ Ministry Twitter page (www.twitter.com/parkwaykids | @parkwaykids) • Never post a child’s name to personal social media accounts. Some families choose to refrain from using their child’s name on social media for either personal or security reasons. We must respect that family’s decision. We need to hear the stories of what is happening in our classrooms, funny, powerful, amazing, weird, whatever! We want them all! If you would like to post a quote, story, or testimony from an event, please use a generic identifier such as 4 year old, 2nd Grader, Boy 1 & Boy 2, etc. • If you have a question about what is appropriate to post, please ask a Kids’ Ministry Staff Member before posting. When in doubt, don’t post.
What do I if a child bites or is physically aggressive towards another child? If a child bites or is physically aggressive towards another child, please contact a Kid’s Ministry staff member immediately.
What do I do if I am having a behavior problem with a child, other than biting or hitting?
First time: Give a verbal warning that if the child has to be corrected one more time they will lose their playground time. When doing this be sure to get down on the child’s level and look into their eyes and speak to them in a loving and calm manner. Second time: Loss of playground time at the end of class. Third time: The classroom teacher needs to make the parents aware of the situation when they come to pick up the child. Fourth time: A Kid’s Ministry staff person has a conversation with the child and the parents together. Fifth time: The child sits out of Sunday programming for 2 weeks.
When should I contact a Kid’s Ministry Staff Member? • • •
If a child becomes ill. If a child has been injured If a child has been crying for more than 10 minutes straight.
How do I contact a Kid’s Ministry staff member?
There is a phone located on the wall in every preschool classroom or in the sound booth in every temporary building. Every phone has a button titled “Jenny.” Just pick up the phone and push the “Jenny” button this will dial to a wireless phone that is always in the possession a Kid’s Ministry staff member. What do I do if a child looks sick? •
•
If a child has a runny nose (green in color), persistent cough, fever, or rash, we will ask the parent to keep their child with them. If you notice this during the service times please notify a staff member and we will contact the parent. If you notice a child is sick during check-in, please tell the parent dropping off the following: “Your child looks like they might not be feeling well. If you could give me just a minute, I would like one of our kid’s ministry staff members to make sure your child is well enough to come and play with the other children in our class today. Thank you.”
What do I do if a child is injured?
Minor Injuries can be treated with a little tender loving care, a cool cloth and a Band-Aid. Small First Aid kits are available in each room in the tech booth. You CANNOT treat any injury with medication of any kind (i.e. alcohol cleaning wipes, antibiotic cream, etc.). When a child is treated, please complete an “Ouch Report” and have a staff member sign the report (a copy of an Ouch Report is on the following page). When the parent arrives, please let them know what happened. A staff member will follow up with the parent, if necessary, the following week. It is important to remember that we are not authorized to dispense any over the counter or prescription medications. In the event a child needs more attention than we can provide, please notify a Kid’s Ministry staff member and the parent will be notified. Serious Injuries involving broken bones, convulsions s, fainting, unconsciousness or other serious bodily injury should be treated as follows: • Do not move the injured child. A Children’s leader must remain with the child. • Stay calm and speak assuring to the child while another team leader cares for the other children in your class. Be sure to keep other children away from the injured child. • Have another team leader find a Kid’s Ministry staff member for assistance. • Staff members will call the Parent, if necessary, they will call 911. Please DO NOT call 911 on your own. This call should only be made by a Parkway Fellowship staff member. • The staff member will contact the parent and take over the situation so you may return to the classroom. • A staff member will contact you with updates of the child’s condition. You may be asked to give information to assist the staff in reporting the incident.
Filling out an Ouch Report •
When a child is injured in any way, please fill out an “Ouch Report” completely giving as much detail as possible concerning the situation.

A Kid’s Ministry Staff member must sign the Ouch Report before the child leaves the church campus.

When the child is released, the original copy should be given to a Kid’s Ministry staff member and the duplicate given to the parent.
Do I need to check-in as a team member? •
YES! Once you have finished the orientation process, you will be placed in our security system as a volunteer. You should CHECK-IN EVERY SUNDAY in order to receive your nametag. You should have your nametag on every time you are working with children. Each leader in the Children’s Ministry is required to wear their nametag as a means of identification that they are authorized leaders in the room.
•
Once you have checked-in and received a nametag, please go to one of the volunteer shirt racks (located on the preschool hallway, Volunteer Central off of the main lobby, or in the temporary buildings) and put on a green Children’s Ministry shirt over your clothes. When you are finished serving go place your shirt in the provided container next to the shirt rack.
•
If someone enters your room and says that they are a parent or “just want to look around,” please direct them to the Children’s Ministry check-in area. Do not allow unauthorized individuals in your classroom. If you have any questions about someone entering your classroom, contact a Kid’s Ministry staff member. Because of the size of our ministry and the mobility of our campus, we depend upon you to assist

us in helping to make Children’s Ministry a safe environment for all our children. Anyone wandering around the Preschool and Children’s areas without a nametag should be reported immediately to a church staff member.

Emergency Situations FIRE o
Follow the fire evacuation route posted next to the door in your classroom.
o
One leader should lead the children out while another leader stands at the door counting the number of children in your care.
o
After all children have been counted, check under any furniture, bathrooms, or other areas where a child could hide.
o
Walk your children to the area designated on the evacuation plan posted next to your door.
o
Once all leaders have arrived, if possible, have your children sit on the ground and count the to make sure that every child is accounted for has been removed from your classroom safely.
o
All check-out procedures will be placed on hold until you have reached the secure location and all children have been accounted for.
o
If parents arrive to pick up a child, follow the same procedure as in a classroom. No child is to be released from your care without a matching tag.
TORNADO/INCLEMENT WEATHER o
You will be notified by a Kid’s Ministry staff member that we are moving to a shelter-in-place situation.
o
Follow the tornado evacuation plan listed on the map posted next to your door.
o
All check-out procedures will be placed on hold until you have reached the secure location and all children have been accounted for.
o
If parents arrive to pick up a child, follow the same procedure as in a classroom. No child is to be released from your care without a matching tag.
MISSING CHILD o
Remove all distractions, music, video, etc. and make an announcement in the classroom calling for the child’s name. Ask children and leaders in the room to help you look under furniture, in closets, bathrooms, etc.
o
If the child is not found, your classroom will go into lock down. Station a volunteer at each door not allowing anyone in or out of the room.
o
Notify a Kid’s Ministry staff member immediately. The Kid’s Ministry Staff member will notify the parent of the situation.
o
If the child is still not found, the entire wing or area of the church will be put in lock down. Each room in the area will be checked for the missing child.
o
If the child is still not found, the entire campus will be put into lock down until further notice.
THREAT OR DANGER OF BODILY HARM o
In the event that there is someone on campus that poses a potential threat to any individual, contact a Kid’s Ministry staff member immediately.
o
The threat will be identified and then addressed.
o
If need be, the Parkway Fellowship staff will place the campus in lock down.
