Products I love! I have been busy researching different products to add to my collection of offerings. As you know, these products have to enhance your life in a positive way, be socially responsible, considerate of the environment, functional, and most of all, I have to LOVE them! The newest addition to the collection is the fabulous GIVE scent co-created by a wonderful yoga teacher who has had a profound impact on me. Elena Brower and Alexandra Lyon Perelman have developed a beautiful fragrance that is free of alcohol, parabens, sulfates, phthalates and formaldehyde. What makes this fragrance truly special for me, however, is that a

portion of the proceeds benefits the organization Women for Women International. You can learn more about this product at givescent.com. You may wish to stock up on your favourite superfoods and raw organic chocolate when you’re in next. Mark and Bridgette of Giddy YoYo not only offer fantastic organic, fair-trade products, their products are the most fairly priced items I have found. I currently have in stock the following items: maca, golden berries, goji berries, spirulina, chlorella tablets, raw cacao, and of course, their famous

Bzzzzzzz…. With summer and those glorious warm sunny days, so, too, come those irritating bugs. Rather than slather yourself with a nasty chemical cocktail, give this a try: 100 ml witch hazel 100 ml distilled water 2.5 ml lemongrass essential oil 2.5 ml eucalyptus essential oil 2.5 ml citronella Combine ingredients in a spray bottle. Contents will separate, so be sure to gently shake bottle before applying. I escaped “bug bite” free using this product during our first “outdoor movie night” of the year last weekend.

My helmet and me I have an electric bike. I love my bike. It’s super fun, and I love that it’s enviro-friendly and economical. It’s also really cute. It’s quite the conversation starter as I pull up in front of stores, or doing other errands. People are intrigued, and generally give warm, enthusiastic feedback about my green “hog” (it’s actually more of a “piglet” in the biker world). Everything runs smoothly as people ask questions and heap praise on my wise, conscientious investment. I bask (no surprise) in this friendly exchange. Once I leave my bike, however, things change. I had to drop something off at the school for one of my boys recently and couldn’t be bothered to take off my helmet. I know most of the staff, and we usually have a nice friendly chat. A woman unfamiliar to me approached me with a severe look on her face. …continued on page 4

Helmet continued…

Products I love continued…

She asked in an imperious manner if I was here to deal with my delinquent son. Aghast that she could make the wrong assumption, I am embarrassed to admit that I needed to correct her. Given more time I probably would have given her copies of my son’s transcripts and athletic awards to assure her she had the wrong person (shameless, I know).

“this ain’t no candy bar” chocolate, in mint, orange, spicy, and vanilla/pink sea salt.

It then dawned on me...she made an assumption, quite likely influenced by my helmet. I have been in that school countless times and have always been treated kindly and with respect. Strange, how simply wearing a motorcycle helmet changed the dynamic. How was I able to go from “responsible earth-friendly trendster” to “irresponsible tattoo-covered gang member” in the span of 3 metres? We can all quickly jump to conclusions based on such little, superficial and often unreliable information. It made me think about assumptions and judgements I have made that I am not proud of. Perhaps being warned “not to judge a book by its cover” should be simplified to “not to judge”.
