KINGDOM VALUES

T

his fall we have been studying Jesus’ first teachings on the kingdom of God in the Gospel of Matthew. It is a section of Scripture we call the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus described God’s kingdom as one that stands in contrast to the world. It is a kingdom in which its citizens, the followers of Jesus, live a life marked by a new set of values and behaviors. The Sermon on the Mount depicts what human life and human community look like when they come under the gracious rule of their true King, Jesus Christ. Throughout our study, we have been asked to examine ourselves (inwardly and outwardly) to see how we are living and reflecting these kingdom values. If we allow Jesus to lead us, we discover a greater dependency on Him and a greater freedom from the world. Ultimately Jesus teaches that life in His kingdom is abundant life.

Chapel Family Sundays in Advent: This year we are excited

to make Advent a season of Family Sundays! Beginning Dec. 3, we are inviting all our children and students (K–12th grade) to join us in the main Worship Room for each Sunday in Advent. Our hope is that as we worship together, we will more fully express our value for intergenerational worship. We are eager for our children and students to feel connected to the larger church family and to see and experience the power of corporate worship. Please join us in welcoming our children and students as we sing, pray, and learn together this wondrous Advent season.

Middle School Midweek & High School Small Groups There will be no Midweek this Wednesday night and no high school small groups next Sunday, Nov. 26 due to the Thanksgiving holiday! The final two Midweeks of the semester will be Nov. 29 and Dec. 6 and the final two high school small groups will be tonight (Nov. 19) and Dec. 3. We encourage you to join these fun times before the Christmas break! If you have any questions about the upcoming schedule, please contact [email protected].
