Neighborhood Comments

Hi Everyone, Due to the recent burglaries in our subdivision over the past few months, we are trying to get everyone to send their email address to Denise [[email protected]]. Denise is associated with the Kings Manor Association and sends out weekly emails with information on what is happening in our subdivision. She has done an outstanding job in keeping us advised on what is taking place in our neighborhood! Like many of you, I read that you could get on the email list in the weekly newspaper but never took the time to make it happen. You will be surprised at the updates of news in our area that are made available to each of you. For instance, did you know two homes next door to each other were broken into on Grand Lancelot Drive recently and a home burglarized on Regal Green Street last month? Also, car burglaries are taking place on a regular basis? I found these out from the emails sent to me by Denise. I would like to see this info emailed directly to each of you on a regular basis; thus making my home a safer place to come home to. Security in our homes and vehicles are a big concern to all of us! Therefore, please make a special effort to communicate with your neighbors on each side of you and across the street. Keeping house alarms on, garage doors closed, and watching our neighbor’s home can help all of us keep unwanted visitors away. Thanks, for your help! Kings Manor Survey Corner

Not many replies from last months survey in regards to our neighborhood lawn service. I guess this means they are doing an ok job. Response? So far the only hobbies our neighbors are part of are Reading, Foreign Language, Crossword Puzzles, Sudoku Puzzles, Chess and Quilting. Anything else? • Would you like to get a group together, such as a Book Club or Quilting Club? • Do we have any babysitters in our neighborhood? • Have you had your home or vehicle broken into and when?

Kings Manor

Pool Owners

It is summer and your pool will be used more often. Neighbors and friends will be coming over to swim and to enjoy your company. But, some will come over without an invite to cool off. What are you doing to detour the unwanted swimmer? Is your gate locked or do you leave it unlatched? Driving around I sometimes see a gate open. Is that neighbor child getting hot and thinking about checking out your pool? LOCK YOUR GATE! You don’t want that child to drown! Houston has had too many drownings this year already.

DON’T FORGET!

Neighborhood Goings On

We have had many comments about the rubber straps that have been imbedding in our trees along Kings Manor Dr. With the help of Pampered Lawns, the straps have all been removed or at least all that we know of. When the last of the newer young trees are able to support themselves, these straps will also be removed. Don’t let us forget. The ones that were removed really made a visual difference to the neighborhood!

If you are planning any home improvements, addition or exterior change, please contact SCS for an Architectural Review application. Upon receipt of your form, the association will respond as quickly as possible. Compliance with our community guidelines is greatly appreciated. To obtain an application: call 281-463-1777 or go to our website at scsmgmt.com

Break-in - (Continued from page 4) proportional to what is being protected. But by the same token, purchasing security hardware which meets the minimal technical requirements listed below could also protect your family from bodily injury. Since prices for security hardware vary depending on the area, the manufacturer and differences in cosmetic features, the buyer should “shop around.” A chain latch on your door offers no security at all. Chain latches can be easily ripped off the door with minimum pressure. The best way to check a caller’s identity is to use a wide angle viewer or peephole. Other Considerations - Do not allow children to open the door to strangers!

The biggest Tsunami ever recorded occurred off the volcanic island of Krakatau, Indonesia, in 1883. Its height was more than 120 feet tall. That’s about as tall as a 12 story building! Tsunamis are large, rapidly moving walls of water, triggered by a major disturbance of the ocean floor, such as an earthquake or landslide. It is Hurricane Season – Make sure your gas tank if full.

THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW YOUR CELL PHONE COULD DO.

(I have not used any of these tips, use at your own discretion.) There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: FIRST Subject: Emergency The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out. SECOND Subject: Have you locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other “remote” for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk). Editor’s Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!” THIRD Subject: Hidden Battery Power Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# your cell will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time. FOURTH How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? To check your Mobile phone’s serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 # A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone gets stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be  totally useless. You probably won’t get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can’t use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones. And Finally... FIFTH Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don’t have to. Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem. When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial: (800) FREE 411, or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now. This is the kind of information people don’t mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends. Copyright © 2007 Peel, Inc.

Kings Manor Parking In The Street

Although parking in the street may not be “against the law” it can be very bothersome for your neighbors. It blocks the flow of traffic, hinders others from easily entering and exiting their driveways, hinders services such as mail delivery, garbage pick up and lawn maintenance, not to mention it can cause a slower response time for emergency vehicles as they drive down the obstacle course (road). Parking on curves may help cause accidents as much as driving fast. Be considerate of your neighbors and community and please park in the driveway!

Lost Your Pet? Be sure to make kmadvisorycomm@yahoo. com one of your contacts in your search. Let us know about your lost pet and we will send out an email to all in our contact list. We can all help to keep an eye out for your pet.

If you have a missing animal and you would like to have some extra help. Please contact SCS by phone so they can relay the information to [email protected]. Or you can email us directly. An email will be sent out to homeowners on our Kings Manor contact list. You can put up signs throughout the neighborhood but please take them down after a week. We will continue to send out updated emails if your pet is still not found.

Kings Manor Contact List

When we get a call or email from a homeowner about a missing animal or information about a home being broken into, we send out an email. When there is important information that we feel homeowners may be interested in knowing about or if we are looking for help with solving a problem, or we just want to remind you about something, an email will be sent out. We have at least 180 homeowners in our contacts. If you would like to be part of the Kings Manor Email Connection, just send a confirmation email to kmadvisorycomm@yahoo. com and your in. If you would like to be taken off the list at anytime, just let us know. Kings Manor Homeowner's Association Newsletter - July 2007
