Langham Creek Community Newsletter Volume 2, Issue 9 Villages of Langham Creek Community Association Official Newsletter

Volunteerism

During the year 2005/2006 we had about 5 folks consistently volunteering and contributing to the community. We congratulate and applaud their efforts but one must wonder where everyone else is? In a community of ~800 families there is definitely space and need for more involvement. Interested? Start with the newsletter. You can also help with neighborhood watch, community landscaping, bylaw enforcement, women’s club, poke club, fitness/running, etc. The list could be long, all you have to do is step up. You can make this a community to make your friends jealous.

Phase VII

As you may have noticed Lennar has moved out of Phase VII and is no longer building. Information at this point indicates that Lennar is planning to sell the area to KB homes. There is space for a small green area. Lennar obviously won’t be planting trees or installing sprinklers.

Landscaping

Little to report this summer. The sprinklers in Phase VI are installed. We are looking to plant trees in phase VI during the fall. Recall Lennar offered to help out with an astounding $1500.00. The current and planned improvements originally scoped at $55,000.00 are a large non-budget expense and we must take this slowly to avoid a shortfall down the line. We are still actively seeking volunteers to help out with the empty lot behind Beckland. The board promises a good food and drink reward for those involved. We currently have 3 individuals willing to help out.

September 2006

Association Dues

Please pay your dues. Your dues pay for insurance, community landscaping, maintenance and more. Currently townhomes and single family homes collectively have over $120,000.00 in past due fees. The board and management association spend a majority of their time and effort collecting these dues. This is time and effort we could spend on beautification initiatives, social efforts.

 Safety/ Security/ Crime/ Neighborhood Watch

What is it that “Smokey the Bear” says? “Only you can prevent forest fires!” Well the same may not directly apply to community safety and crime, but it’s not far off. Perhaps, “Only with your direct involvement will any measure of success be attained…”  Over the months we’ve had a disturbing number of reports of general mischief come across our desks. Some are easy to believe: Teens drifting/drag racing, spray painting the monument sign, minor theft from garages. Others force a double take: Grown men who live in this community driving through the small tree park to save 5 seconds, Drunks and Kids hitting houses with their cars (read that again - it’s happened at least 4 times), Tire slashing and key’ing, oh and then there’s stealing dog dirt bags from the dispenser. So what to do about it? Patrols, Speed bumps, cameras, more signs, and the like cost serious cash to be effective. We could raise dues. Or we could get involved. Re-ignite the effort to start a neighborhood watch program (we need leaders from EVERY street). Talk to your kids. Keep your eyes open. Get to know your neighbors. Bottom line – let’s get involved.
