Laurel Creek Water Wars A Success

LAUREL CREEK

Volume 2, Issue 7

ACC VOLUNTEERS NEEDED The Laurel Creek board is looking to fill two positions on the neighborhood's Architectural Control Committee (ACC). The duties of the ACC are to review applications received from residents for changes or improvements to their property. The ACC does not set guidelines or policy but rather applies the deed restrictions that each member of the neighborhood agreed to upon purchase of their home. These positions are by appointment of the board. Anyone interested in being appointed should have a history of compliance with the ACC rules. If you would like to be considered, please submit your name and contact information to Misti Gailey with Crest Management Company at [email protected].

Laurel Creek Water Wars was an awesome way to kick off the summer with neighbors! Everyone had a blast! Special thanks to Kelly Barsch for coordinating the event.

OFF LEASH DOGS Recently there have been many posts on Nextdoor about off-leash dogs, both in Laurel Creek and surrounding neighborhoods. These dogs fall into two broad categories: • Dogs that belong to residents of a particular subdivision; and • Unknown dogs that come from the surrounding area. Harris County ordinances require all dogs (and cats) be on a leash or confined in a manner that does not allow access to sidewalks and streets. There is also a requirement that they be vaccinated for rabies. Per Harris County’s website at www.hcphes.org, residents in unincorporated Harris County should call 281-999-3191 to report the following complaints: • Animal bites • Dogs or cats that are roaming loose, not confined on a leash or not confined to owner’s fenced yard • Roadside vendors selling live animals • Any stray or abandoned animal confined by a resident on their property Per a pamphlet put out by Dogbite.org (www.Dogbite.org/ Dangerous-Dogs.php), it is very important to report loose dogs that might be aggressive and animal bites. Per the pamphlet, the most effective way to impact the owner of a dangerous dog and to force authorities to take action is to build a history of documented past violations carried out by the dog. When possible, try to take a photo of any dog you plan to report on your cell phone. Also ask any witnesses if they know where the dog lives and request their contact information (particularly if the dog has actually attacked). The pamphlet also recommends that loose and unknown dogs not be approached or petted. Direct eye contact with the animal should be avoided. If you have children or a small animal on a leash and spot a large dog off leash in the distance, it is a good idea to quietly change direction without attracting the dog’s attention. If a loose dog should bite, even if it is a small dog and the bite is not serious, every possible attempt should be made to identify the owner and obtain proof the animal has been vaccinated for rabies. Any bite from an unknown animal, whether a dog, cat, squirrel, raccoon, bat or coyote should be reported to authorities and medical advice obtained as to whether rabies prevention treatment is needed. Our Parks Belong to US ALL

It is the beginning of summer and all the children as well as the young men and women in our community will be free to enjoy the outdoor spaces of our neighborhood. We do have some very lovely spaces including the Gazebo Park, Shadow Gate Park, Laurel Stone Park, and the Basketball Park. These parks are enjoyed by children of all ages. When something belongs to everyone, sometimes it is easy to believe that it belongs to you as an individual. In some cases, this is a very beneficial quality. Like when someone walking through the Gazebo Park notices a piece of trash next to the sidewalk and they pick it up and put it in the trash can. In others, it can be very disheartening. Like when someone took a hatchet or an axe to a small pecan tree near the Basketball P This spring, someone removed fence boards for easier access behind Laurel Stone Park. This was particularly dangerous because

that person is believed to have built a small fire on top of the Exxon Mobil Pipeline Easement. If there were any trace leaks in those pipelines, that fire could have ignited the fuel carried by those lines. The resulting explosion is too horrible to contemplate. Our green spaces and parks belong to each and every resident of our subdivision as a community. Please speak with the young people in your family about caring for these spaces. Ask them to please pick up after themselves. If they notice destructive behavior, please encourage them to bring it to your attention so that you can let Crest Management know that something is wrong. Please notify Misty Gailey, Assistant Manager, at misty.gailey@crest-management. com or by phone at (281) 579-0761. We have a very lovely neighborhood and with a little help from your family, it will stay that way.

Article Submission Any Laurel Creek resident may submit articles for the Peel newsletter.  Articles may be submitted to Crest Management Company  by the  5th of each month for inclusion in the newsletter for the following month. All articles are subject to review.

Because Laurel Creek is a Deed Restricted Community, any changes that you wish to make to the exterior of your home must first be approved by the Architectural Control Committee (ACC). This includes roofing, decks, swimming pools, fence replacement, painting – even if you are re-painting using the same color, tree removal, door re-staining, etc. For a complete list, or if you have any questions about a planned project, please contact Sterling at 832678-4500. Exterior Improvement Application forms are available online at Sterling’s website at www.sterlingasi.com. The ACC members are volunteers who act as quickly as possible to review each application; however please remember that they have 60 days to render a decision. Please do not start any work until you have received written approval from Sterling.
