HELP KEEP LAUREL CREEK MERRY AND BRIGHT!

Crest Management Company and your community management team would like to wish the community of Laurel Creek a very merry and safe holiday season! We look forward to ringing in the New Year with Laurel Creek NAI and here is to a great 2016! Just as a friendly reminder, please note your annual maintenance fee for 2016 is due by January 1st in the amount of $800. Please contact your community accountant, Dianne Broyles, at [email protected] prior to your January 1st due date for payment options or for a copy of your invoice.

With the holiday and winter seasons upon us, please remember your property still requires some TLC. Maintaining your property is not only a deed-restricted requirement but also a courtesy to your community and your neighbors to assist in the overall community aesthetics as well as aide in maintaining property values. Please assist in maintaining a merry Laurel Creek this holiday season by keeping up with your property’s general routine maintenance and lawn care. Please also remember to remove holiday decorations no later thirty (30) days after the noted holiday. Remember to properly dispose of trash in the proper trash receptacles, which must be stored from public view when not a trash day. Please contact Crest Management to report any deed restriction inquiries or concerns. We would like to encourage neighbor-toneighbor communication in regards to matters such as barking dogs, noise disturbances from holiday parties, parking in the street or any issue considered neighbor-to-neighbor or where the association cannot enforce county regulations and/or laws.

290 Corridor Construction Project Are you tired of the delay from construction on Highway 290 and want to know when it will end? The Texas Department of Transportation held a public meeting on September 1 and 3 to explain that the design has been changed to meet the ever increasing demands of the population growth in the Northwest side of Houston. Laurel Creek sits in a hot growth area as evidenced by the construction on West road between Gessner and the Beltway. In fact, the explosion of the growth caused the engineers to rethink our needs. Instead of having four in-bound and four out-bound lanes, the expansion of the freeway is now contemplated to have five lanes of traffic each way plus a dedicated and reversible HOV lane. TXDOT expects to finish the project in 2017. Let’s hope they finish on time and that our commute-time will be lessened. Copyright © 2016 Peel, Inc.

The Laurel Creek Architectural Control Committee works closely with the Home Owner Association to review applications for making improvements or changes to the neighborhood homes. Their purpose is to maintain the Deed Restrictions so our neighbor’s homes can be kept to the high standards set by the original founders of this community. There are currently three members who volunteer for this community service. Anyone interested in volunteering for a position may contact Sterling Management for more information.

Santa's Visit to Laurel Creek

Santa is accustomed to the North Pole’s cold weather so he did not let the light sprinkle prevent him from getting the Christmas wish lists from the kids of Laurel Creek on December 13, 2015. Our infants, toddlers and children had the opportunity to sit on Santa’s lap and take pictures. Santa gave each of them a candy cane, and each youngster also had the chance to take a craft home in which they could decorate stockings, Christmas trees or snowflakes. Their parents discussed Christmas plans over a table full of goodies. Santa said “Ho, ho, ho and wished everyone a Merry Christmas!” Santa also wanted to thank his helpers who brought desserts and crafts and those who helped adorn the Gazebo.

Easy Ways to Make Your Home Safe

A home should be a sanctuary and a safe haven. You can ensure that you and your loved ones remain out of harm's way in the precincts of your homestead. To avoid all kinds of accidents you should make it an accidentproof dwelling. It's really simple if you observe specific steps to keep mishaps at bay. Here are 10 easy ways to make your home safe and secure. These will help you take care and protect yourself, family members and house-guests. Employ these effective tips: 1. Keep interiors and exteriors well lit. This is important at nighttime and also in winters when daylight is not very effective. Critical areas that need to be illuminated are the stairs, outdoors and foyers. 2. Never leave electrical problems pending at any point. The slightest fluctuation should be attended immediately. Make it a cardinal rule to switch off appliances after use. 3. Smoke alarms are a necessity and you must have the very best. Practice regular safety drills with your family to ensure awareness of procedures.

4. Keep ordinary appliances safely as they could be dangerous. Especially with kids around. Make electrical outlets safe by safety plugging and child proofing them. Keep sharp objects like scissors, knives, weapons and match boxes out of reach. 5. Ensure locks and bolts on doors and windows are in order and tamper-proof. Keep an eye out for suspicious characters and never invite strangers into your home. Teach your children not to entertain queries from strangers. 6. Do not share information about working or school hours. Teach family members to avoid telling people about schedules and routines. Do not put personal information online and never respond to voicemails. 7. The risk of accidents goes up when you are getting maintenance or repair work done. Ensure safety and precaution and be prepared to react quickly to accidents or injuries. 8. Do not attempt repair work of appliances involving undue risk. Many home accidents are the result of improper tampering with tools like lawnmowers and trimmers. 9. Maintain caution when driving vehicles in or out of your home. If you are backing the car up, watch out for children and pets on the road. Make sure you don't leave stuff on stairs that may cause people to trip and fall. Be watchful when clearing snow from pathways that you do not heap it up in areas where people might walk.
