LESSON #12 JEREMIAH’S 5TH MESSAGE ( Part 2) Jeremiah 16:1-17:27 Subject: Jeremiah recognizes Judah’s heart and reveals God as her only hope. Please answer these lesson questions for next week prior to watching the Lesson 12 video.

Review 1. Was there anything from Jeremiah’s complaint to God that has helped you this week?

2. Was there anything brought out in the discussion group that you especially enjoyed?

Read Jeremiah 16:1-9

God’s restrictions for Jeremiah

Remember from last week’s lesson that Jeremiah was at a very low point in his ministry when he cried out to God once again.

3. Rather than easing the pressure of his ministry, however, God went on to deny Jeremiah several more human comforts. What were they?

4. How does God’s denial of these comforts impact your thinking about the Christian life and ministry?

Read Jeremiah 16:10-21 The reason for Judah’s judgment 5. When the people of Judah would ask why God was punishing them, what would God’s answer be?

6. What does God state is His purpose for bringing judgment on Judah?

7. Can you share a particular time that God used a similar means to accomplish His purpose in your life?

Read Jeremiah 17:1-18 Those who are blessed by God 8. What does God say is necessary to be blessed by Him? How is that accomplished?

9. Explain in practical terms the effects of God’s blessing on a life today.

10. How does 17:9 address the all important issue of the nature of man? How does God’s view differ from that which most people have about humanity?

11. Can you explain the relationship between a man’s heart, his mind, and his conduct from verse 10?

12. If 17:9 is true, what is the hope for humanity? How does what Jeremiah says in verses 17:12-18 point to the answer? See also John 3:1-8.

13. As Jeremiah realizes the plight of man and recognizes God is his only hope, what is his plea in verses 17:11-18?

Read Jeremiah 17:19-27 The holiness of the Sabbath 14. How was Judah profaning the Sabbath?

15. What was God intent in establishing the Sabbath Law? See Exodus 20:3-11 and Isaiah 58:13-14.

16. What are ways today that Christians can observe the intent and purpose of the Sabbath although, through Christ, we no longer live under the Mosaic Law but under grace?

Reflection and Personal Application 17. How exactly are you depending upon man rather than trusting the Lord? Will you confess your sin and begin to look to God to meet your need?
