Explorers of the Lost Kingdom: Lesson 3 – March 2/3 Group Time Guide: 4-5th Grade

Group Time Guide Supplies Needed: “Broken Rules” story sheet.

1. Getting Started Tell kids to meet someone new, and talk about this question: What’s your favorite thing to learn about?

2. Discussion Questions • Have you ever played a game with someone who cheated? How did it feel? • What rules were broken in the Source today? What do you think will happen? • What do you think “respect” means? (Could mention following the rules and being kind to leaders, even if we disagree with them.)

3. Hands-On Option Look Up and Read: Proverbs 10:9. This verse says that anyone who “takes a crooked path” will be caught. The writer compares cheating to taking a “crooked path” because it’s like you’re sneaking around, and taking the wrong way. It’s never worth it to cheat. Discuss: Do you think cheating would be worth it, if you wouldn’t get caught? (Point out that even if no one else knew, you would know that you had cheated, and may feel guilty.) Do This: Read the “Broken Rules” stories to the kids, and discuss whether breaking the rules was worth it that time. The Point: When we break rules or cheat, no one wins. It’s best to follow the rules. If you don’t understand or don’t like a rule, calmly ask the person who made it why you have that rule. If you feel like a rule is unfair, nicely tell that to the adult in charge.

4. Wrap-Up and Prayer Ask: Is there anything going on that you would really like God’s help with? Do This: Pray with the kids.
