THE SUFFICIENCY OF CHRIST’S RESOURCES 6:10-15 The resources of Jesus Christ are what we must depend upon if we are to meet man’s spiritual needs.

LESSON #9 JESUS WALKS ON WATER, DISCOURSE ON BREAD OF LIFE Subject: After Jesus walks on water, he claims to be the Bread of Life. John 6:16-71 Please answer these lesson questions for next week prior to watching the Lesson 9 video.

Review 1. Was there anything from the last lesson or lecture that was particularly encouraging to you?

Read John 6:16-21, Mark 6:45 Jesus Walks on Water 2. What is meaningful to you that Jesus sent his disciples across the sea to Capernaum?

3.

According to Matthew 8:23-27, Mark 4:35-41 and Luke 8:23-25, Jesus had already revealed his power over nature in calming an earlier storm. In this incident, the fear of the disciples seems to be not from the storm but because they thought Jesus was a ghost. What do you think Jesus was teaching his men now? You may see several points.

4.

How can we “take Jesus into our boat” in a spiritual sense?

Read John 6:22-24 The Crowd’s Search for Jesus 5. What did the crowd want from Jesus as the people searched for him?

6.

What do we often want from Jesus when we look for him?

7.

What does the Bible say about man’s natural desire for God? See Romans 3:10-11; I Corinthians 2:14.

Read John 6:25-59 Jesus Is the Bread of Life 8. How did Jesus use the crowd’s desire to encourage the people to desire something better?

9.

What was the all important question the crowd asked Jesus in verse 28? How is the question and its answer misunderstood by many people in every age?

10. Taking Jesus as the Bread of Life, try to think of what he does for the believer, in a greater and spiritual sense, that is similar to what physical bread does for a person.

11. In Jesus’ words from verses 35-58, find as many points as you can that speak of the security of the believer (i.e. that his salvation will be accomplished and cannot be lost).

12. What does it mean to eat of the flesh of Jesus and drink of his blood, verse 54?

13. Find as many claims of deity as you can that Jesus made in this section.

Read John 6:60-71 Jesus Is Deserted by Many 14. What do you think was so difficult about Jesus’ words that caused many to leave him?

15. What is it about the message or the person of Jesus Christ that turns people away today?

Reflection and Personal Application 16. What has been the specific result of your feeding on the Bread of Heaven this week? Is your belief in him and love for him greater because you have feasted upon Him?
