Lew Hollow It is understood that Lew Hollow was built in 1902 in the height of the Edwardian Arts and Crafts period and the property contains a number of attractive features of that period, including deep skirtings, cornicing and picture rails, an ogee-arched doorway into the drawing room, original floor tiling in the hall and some original stained glass panels. The house is constructed of stone elevations with dressed Beer stone quoins and reveals under a tiled roof. Above the front door there is a dressed stone pedimented arch. A decorative tiled pediment adorns the arch above the balcony. Within the house are two elegant reception rooms, a superb conservatory with views out to sea, a large kitchen/breakfast room and four first floor bedrooms, two of which enjoy access to a balcony with wonderful views out to sea and along the coastline. The fifth bedroom is currently used as a music room/study and there are two bathrooms.

Accommodation The property is approached over a long tarmac driveway. Steps lead up to a timber front door with partial glazing and wrought iron fretwork opening into the reception hall, which has an original tiled floor. An ogee-arched door opens into the drawing room which has a Minster open fireplace, timber flooring and a salon area. This room enjoys views into the conservatory, over the garden and to the sea beyond. Glazed doors open into the conservatory, which has low stone walls, a ceiling fan and doors opening into the garden. The conservatory has uninterrupted views out to sea. Also accessed from the hall is the dining room, which has glazed doors leading into the drawing room, a Minster fireplace and fitted display cabinets, one of which houses a clever cutlery drawer interconnecting with the kitchen so the cutlery can be accessed from either room.

Off the hall is a cloakroom with separate w.c. and a door opening into the kitchen/breakfast room, which has an adjoining butler’s pantry with extensive shelving. The kitchen/breakfast room has a range of wall and floor mounted units under timber work surfaces, a built-in dishwasher and a 4-oven oil fired Aga. There is also a White Westinghouse electric oven with hob over built in to a separate unit. This room has ample space for a table and chairs.

A door from the kitchen/breakfast room leads out to the rear lobby/boot room with access to outside and to the boiler room, which has ample storage space. An outer door from the kitchen leads to the covered pathway to the side of the house with access to the laundry room, where there is space and plumbing for a washing machine and tumbler drier.

Garden and Grounds To the front of the house, flanking the entrance drive, are a number of mature trees, hedges and flower and shrub borders, giving the property seclusion and privacy. In front of the conservatory to the rear of the house is an area of level lawn, screened by hedging and mature conifers, with flower and shrub borders containing a variety of plants, including viburnum, hydrangeas, pittosporum, hostas, cotoneaster and abelia. Adjoining the conservatory is a covered seating area, ideal for outside dining and to just sit and enjoy the views. There is an upper area of lawn and stone wall along the top of the cliff, above which is a pathway leading to a series of lawned terraces containing a mass of spring bulbs and an orchard. The garden has glorious uninterrupted views out to sea and along the coastline. Below the lawned garden a sloping area with mature trees leads down to the entrance drive. There is also a ‘hidden’ pathway with steps.

From the reception hall a staircase leads to the first floor landing with doors to the two master bedrooms, both of which have doors leading out to the balcony. From the balcony glorious views can enjoyed out to sea, along the coastline and towards Portland Bill. Both bedrooms have attractive stained glass panelling to the top of the windows. Also on the first floor are two further double bedrooms, two bathrooms and a music/study room which could be used as a fifth double bedroom. .

Outbuildings At the top of the entrance drive is a garage with a sliding door and electricity connected. Within the garage are a good number of storage shelves. The entrance drive has parking spaces at the bottom and half way up, as well as the parking by the house.
