Taking Care of Business // God’s Method of Work Who we are is more important than what we do (1 Thess. 4:11-12; 2 Thess. 3:10-13). We are first and foremost called to be followers of Jesus, to be like Him. The way we work is then a reflection of Him. If we have the ability and opportunity to work, we should do so with gratitude, with character, and to help those around us. SHARING TESTIMONIES With those in your group, share about someone you have personally seen reflect the heart and character of Christ in the way they work or conduct business. What have you observed in them? How have they handled difficult situations? GO DEEPER 1. In Thess. 3:10-13, what was commanded and encouraged to those who were not working? What should be our ambition, according to 1 Thess. 4:1112? 2. According to Proverbs 16:11, Colossians 3:23-24, and Matthew 5:16, how should we work? MAKE IT PERSONAL 1. How well do you reflect Christ-likeness in how you work? Do you have a grateful willingness to work? What hinders that willingness the most? 2. Do you work with honesty, integrity, and excellence? Why or why not? How is God using your work to shape your heart and character right now? 3. How do you work to help and serve others around? PRACTICE IT NOW God is more concerned about who we are than the specifics of what we do. Being is always first priority over doing. Take time as a group to pray for the right heart, attitude, and character in the way you work. Also pray over and encourage those who are genuinely struggling in their work but who want to reflect Christ-likeness and walk in humble gratitude.
