Talk about it: Ice Breaker: What is your favorite thing about Christmas? What’s your favorite Christmas movie? Read and discuss Luke 2:25-37 What promise are both Simeon and Anna waiting for? What are some promises you are holding onto? (If you need some help with remembering God’s promises check this out rockvillecogop.com/blog/2010/10/14/alist-of-god’s-promises-of-blessing-by-rick-warren/) How large of a gap is there between “your present and your promise”? What does Anna fill the “GAP” with? How could you fill your ‘GAP” with more of the good stuff? What would be different if your promise was your present? (In other words how would you know God fulfilled his promise to you?) Read and discuss Luke 2:38-40 and Colossians 1:15-20 Anna was holding onto a promise that Israel would someday have a Messiah, how do you think she felt when she saw Simeon saying about baby Jesus, “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of Israel”? How did Anna respond to the promise? Has the Lord ever blessed you and at the time of the blessing you didn’t recognize it as a blessing? Why do you think Jesus came as a baby? How has God proved himself faithful to you? Have you ever had a season where you questioned if God was still faithful? How did that season turn out? Close your group time by praying for one another and asking God to close the GAP between the promise and the present.
