Life Life of of the the Church Church December 22 April 1, 2015 Luke: Be. Live. Proclaim. The Gospel As we continue our study of Luke, we invite you to join in reading and reflecting on a passage each week. Weekly reflection questions, written by members of the Discipleship Council, are available to pick up in the Welcome Center or the 3rd floor of the Education Building. They are also distributed, along with a weekly video reflection, via email each week. These tools help prepare us for our weekly sermon. This Sunday morning we will find Jesus facing temptation and responding with Scripture. The focal passage is Luke 4:1-13 and invites us to see that our call is to live lives that bring Glory to God. This week’s passage for personal reading and study is Luke 3:21-4:44. Visit fbcknox.org/luke for weekly videos, reflection questions, and more. Christmas Eve Candlelight Service Thursday, December 24, 5 pm, Sanctuary This service is one of the high points of the year. The doors will open at 4 pm, pre-service music will begin at 4:45 pm and our televised service will begin at 5 pm. This service of Lessons and Carols is a great tradition in our city, and we will have a full house; so make sure and get here early to secure your seat. We are going to ask that you not hold seats for others out of respect for those that will be coming to join us. Meet your family in the Welcome Center or in the front entry and come in together for what should be a memorable time of celebration and worship. Wendell's Last Sunday as Interim - Combined Worship Service This Sunday, December 27 Wendell will close his time as our Interim Minister of Music on December 27. We will begin our morning at 9:30 am in Trentham Hall for a continental breakfast. As we wrap up our breakfast fellowship at about 10:30 am we will move toward the Sanctuary for a joint worship service that will begin, as usual, at 11 am. While we will focus our hearts on worship, we will also take time to celebrate what Wendell has brought to us in worship leadership. Thank you for your contributions toward our congregation's gift for Wendell and Rachel; it will be presented Sunday.

Holiday Office Closure Schedule December 25 & 28 Just a reminder that our church office will be closed December 25 & 28, so that our staff may enjoy time with their families. We will open with normal business hours on December 29. Call Weekend for Minister of Music and Worship Candidate January 2-3 The Minister of Music and Worship Search Committee and the Personnel Committee have brought a joint, unanimous recommendation to our church for a new Minister of Music and Worship. Our candidate will rehearse with the Sanctuary Choir and later with the First Community Worship Team during the afternoon of Saturday, January 2. He will lead both the First Community and 11 am Worship Services the morning of Sunday, January 3. Between the services that day, there will be a "get-to-know you" fellowship with the candidate from 9:4510:15 am in the Blue Room. That morning a new publication on worship that introduces our candidate will be available before and after each of our three worship services. We are very excited to introduce this candidate to you. He will be a wonderful addition to our church staff and a great gift to our church family. Even though it is a holiday weekend, we hope that as many of you as possible will be able to be a part of this important moment in our church. First Thursday Evening of Every Month Thursday, January 7, 6 pm, Panera in Mercedes Place Are you a young professional or young mother? If so, we'd love to invite you to come join other FBC women for a monthly women's gathering. Led by Sandy Wisener, Alice Crook, and Joy Clayrbook these monthly gatherings are an opportunity to connect with other women while finding encouragement in your faith journey. For more information, please contact Joy Claybrook [email protected]. Please RSVP by January 5. Random Acts of Christmas Kindness As you complete your Random Acts of Christmas Kindness remember to tear out the pages of your completed activities and bring them back to the church to be placed on our Random Acts of Kindness Christmas Tree in the Welcome Center. As our tree is filled with these random acts of kindness, we are reminded what a joy it is to give to others, especially during this time of year. If you have not yet picked up your booklet, a limited number are still available in the Welcome Center! WOMEN ON MISSION (WOM) - No January Meeting Tuesday, February 2, 10:30 am, Room 302 As we begin 2016, we welcome you to Women On Mission. We hope you will make plans to join us as we continue to learn more about missions and how we can be involved in the mission work of our church.

PRAYER LIST for Wednesday - 12/23/2015

Year End Giving It is the time of year when generosity takes center stage in our nation. Over the course of the Advent and Christmas seasons, people will be looking to express their gratitude with generous giving. Your generous giving through our church by year-end will help us make a vital step toward meeting our budget. This year we have witnessed God move in ways that have changed lives. The church office receives your generous gifts through December 31 in order to count toward your 2015 charitable giving deduction. The church office will be open for the final three days of the year until 5 pm.
